Why no criminals in MMA?

You'd think that with the early portrayals of MMA as a savage and brutal sport, you'd think that it would have it's share of criminals.

In boxing, you have ex-cons, drug addicts, wife beaters, and Mike Tyson.

But MMA and its athletes seems to DEFY public perception. As far as I know, I don't think there are any criminals or anyone with records who are competing on the highest levels of the sport. You'd think someone nicknamed "The Axe Murderer" would have a rap sheet longer than someone nicknamed "The Executioner."

Is there something in the water that MMA athletes drink? Why are these athletes who participate in a "violent" sport so...non-violent? As far as I know, these guys don't have criminal records.

Boxing is a working class sport

MMA is a middle class sport

B/c it would be bad for the sport.

safely middle class in america--things may be different in the filfy streets...

no criminals???? Open your eyes man.

Yeah--it costs a lot less to join a boxing gym.  There is one near me in Florida--costs $50 a year to join and a $1 per day to train.

They are making all that mad money on Felony Fights.

No criminals? How about Lee Murray?

yeah good job we have no armed robbers that have carried off massive jobs in the uk and are currently hiding out in south america! or any fighters that have direct conections to the yakuza in japan! seriously though i agree generally that it attracts more wholesome types, but there is an underworld element.

Bobby hoffman.

"As far as I know, I don't think there are any criminals or anyone with records who are competing on the HIGHEST levels of the sport."

I'm talking about elite level MMA guys. I don't consider Lee Murray elite.

Chuck, Matt, Rich, Wand, Fedor, pretty clean from what I know.

Tyson and Hopkins have rap sheets. And if I recall, Mayweather and Corrales have domestic abuse records.

Aleksander Emelianenko

Doesnt Tank have a bunch of arrests for streetfighting?

I heard Kimo has done some time for meth dealing, but that could be BS.

There are plenty of guys with "records" in MMA, including well known fighters.

MMA requires more discipline than the average criminal has. You can't just slug away ala Felony Fights, you have to train diligently.

Also, like Diego said, MMA is more suburban and middle class as opposed to boxing.

Criminals stay away from MMA. They know that Cro Cop and Steve Jennum will arrest them.

I thought having a tattoo meant you are a criminal?

"Boxing is a working class sport
MMA is a middle class sport"

Correct.

Read any thread on this forum involving police and you will immediately realized how many criminals we have here from the tone of many of the posts.
