Anthony Pettis is the undisputed lightweight champion and arguably the UFC's most exciting fighter, but why isn't he a PPV star yet? Kevin Iole takes a look:

"I don't think I've fought to my full potential yet, to be honest with you," Pettis said. "I really don't. But I've learned and evolved and I've had such a great camp. I feel like I'm ready to bust out and take this to the next level."

What would legitimately stamp him as a star is a win over someone like McGregor, Roufus believes. McGregor fights champion Jose Aldo for the featherweight title at UFC 189 in July.

Roufus is convinced a Pettis-McGregor fight would be what it would take to make Pettis a mega-star.

"I think he's going to get there just if he keeps doing what he's doing, and he goes out there like [former boxing heavyweight champion] Mike Tyson did and destroys guys," Roufus said. "I really like Conor and what he's done for the sport. I believe Conor is a very good fighter, but he's a great talker. If down the road, that fight were to happen, I think it would be the fight that could push Anthony to the absolute top-level."

That means defeating dos Anjos on Saturday, staying healthy and fighting in another three or four months. Roufus said Pettis believes he has improved to the point that he could legitimately fight four times a year.

it's the facial hair.

The destructive abilities of Tyson with the work ethic of Mayweather. Damn. That would be an awesome fight but if Conor does beat Aldo he will probably rematch Aldo straight away then he still has to face, at least, Frankie, Chad and probably Cub before he can think about a superfight. Pettis really only has to beat RDA and the winner of Cowboy v Khabib. That means Conor is about 18 months away from being available and Pettis about 4-6 months. Phone Post 3.0

I want to see him fight winner of McGregor / Aldo

I've heard his manager trying to advocate for him, and he sounded like a rube. I think he put the nail in his coffin as far as not getting the title shot after the Lauzon fight, when it was between him and Edgar.

You're right, it could help a lot. I think Duke doesn't do a bad job of being his mouthpiece. But he still could use someone better than that, and who is able to sell him on the right channels.

Chael could fill that role somewhat. He's on Sportscenter, they have that same manager, and are kind of friends. Pettis of course had his back against Wand.

Punk also will help I'm sure. He'll be in his corner this weekend and going forward. He's got a ton of followers for MMA and can talk. He's been oddly quiet so far though. He should be suggesting to his fans they watch the ppv.

It seems important for Pettis to be humble, and he said he won't promote himself. If it was me personally and I was his rep, I'd be trying to get on Sportscenter and then yell (like Don King w/ Pettis in the background) about how LIGHTweights are actually MIDDLEweights in boxing, Pettis has never been out-damaged in a fight so he's really undefeated, he does things other fighters don't even dream of so they're jealous, etc. Somebody needs to go off like that on his behalf, only not in a forum that has 10's of people, rather several million.

I said it because I know it to be true. Punk is cornering him. It's been reported many places, including by Pettis himself on InsideMMA.

I don't know if someone is kicked out of his corner. If they are, I'd guess it was Sergio because he's just been there for moral support from what I've seen. He could have a corner of Duke, Funk, Wanderley, and Punk.

said it many times before.

If Pettis passed me on the street, I'd have no idea.

it takes time... and the right opponents.

Repetition is key.

He doesn't fight often enough because of injuries and he's not very charismatic. Grade A talkers like Connor and Chael have charisma. Quiet guys like Chuck had a certain badass aura. Although Pettis is a good looking guy and is a great fighter, he just doesn't have either one of those things.

Too many PPVs.
Everyone is excited to see him fight. But he's getting equal promotional time as every other headliner.

He's one of a kind. Their marketing team should be shoving that down people's throats. "Watch someone who's already established reach their full potential" Phone Post 3.0

All his amazing finishes are never fresh in people's heads. He's an amazing fighter he just needs to stay healthy and get quicker turn arounds. Injury layoffs kill your hype and momentum with the fans. Phone Post 3.0

if pettis vs dos anjos breaks 300k buys, he's a legit ppv headliner.

Do you guys think he can repeat the showtime kick?

I think he will try to at some point. I think he alluded to that in the Embedded video.

SensoriaUtopia - The fact that Lesnar fights, Ronda fights against girls who could not have possibly had worse gameplans, Tito Shamrock grudge matches, all of these did PPV wonders, but guys like Pettis,Anderson for much of his career, Aldo,Barao etc...drew decent but not stellar numbers, this tell me that overall MMA fan's who really love the sport are way less compared to casual fans who order more for a spectacle.

Especially with how modest Anderson's PPV's have been, people say he did not speak English, good Lord, who cares what language he speaks, what he does in the cage was so gripping and insane I could not wait from one fights of his to the next. I could see him starting off slow on PPV's, but for him to go 17 straight fights, usually with a brilliant finsh, displaying amazing artristry in a brutal sport, the fact that after Anderson was 4 or more fights in and people still did not "get it" only speaks to how far MMA fan's still have to go.

No doubt about that. Hardcore fans don't drive PPV buys and profits, casual boneheads do. Same with boxing.

SensorialUtopia-

There are two kinds of MMA fans,

Type one- fans with backgrounds in training MMA,wrestling,BJJ,Judo,Sambo, karate,TKD, boxing and/or kickboxing who appreciate the skills of Pettis, Anderson, Aldo, Barao etc...

Type two- fans with backgrounds of drinking beers and maybe, maybe doing curls in the squat rack who will order the Shamrock/Tito PPV's, the Lesnar PPV's, and (time will tell) the CM Punk PPV's. Marketing and brands get them to buy.

He doesnt fight enough

That's about it

Also the opponents and ability to sell fights

That's why Roufus is calling out McGregor, because McGregor can sell a fight

Look at what Chael did for Anderson Phone Post 3.0
