Why Strikeforce is not more popular.

Strikeforce has a major image issue, where many of the fans that watch UFC refuse to watch strike force. The entire format looks cheesy on television, with its goofy announcers’ and over the top promotional style. Nearly every Saturday night I am either at home or at a bar with my wife. The fact that the format of strikforce is so goofy and almost WWEish makes it nearly impossible to get your wife/girlfriend to watch the event. Every time I say to my wife there is a good fight this weekend, strikforce she just laughs. there is no way she will watch it. Marunalo might know his stuff but he is so goofy that most chics simply wont watch it. When you combine the presentation with the fact that most of the fighters in the organization have a tough time when going to the UFC, it makes it a hard sell. The fact is many guys are stuck doing what their GF or wives are doing on Saturdays, and if they wont watch it neither will the guys. UFC has an “cool” image that many chicks will watch. I was expecting Zuffa to help fix this, and make the events look more professional but they have yet too do anything.  WEC was much more popular with lesser names, or at least it appeared that way. Just my opinion

Strikeforce was very popular, UFC bought them and took all the big name fighters minus Gil. Strikeforce is a shell of it's former self, and will soon be folded into the ufc

WTF are you talking about?

What a useless thread.

triso - WTF are you talking about?

What a useless thread.

Explain? I think that explains why it never was able to get over the hump. They had all the hype in the world and still could not make money. Even Fedor did not bring in numbers big enough.

LOL

That silly promo commercial with Frank Shamrock sure didn't help.

This fagg-o-tron just said that he doesn't watch Strikeforce because it's not cool enough for his girlfriend.

Let me guess, you're watching the Lifetime Channel on the weekends?

The end.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I used to subscribe to Showtime only for Strikeforce, but eventually cancelled them because it wasn't worth it anymore. There are only a few fighters left I care about and not many people to match them up with.

Gil - great fighter, but there's no one in Strikeforce I want to see him fight
Rousey - unless she's fighting Cyborg, no one can touch her
Rockhold - Great fighter and one of the few I care about in SF

There are a few other people I'm mildly interested in, like Kennedy, Lawlor and Jacare, but the events are so sporadic now. They really shouldn't have cut King Mo - he was one of the most interesting fighters and personalities they had left. If Direct TV makes nice with Viacom and I get MTV2 back I'll watch him in Bellator.

I'd actually like to see this card, but I doubt any bars will be showing it.

I don't have a problem with sf. Despite its lack of star power, it still quiet often delivers a more enjoyable night of fights than UFC does. I like mauro ranallo too, it's shamrock that annoys me. Phone Post

So the reason why SF isn't successful is because dudes girlfriends don't wanna watch it? Right.... Phone Post

What did I just read...?

what happened was Fedor lost and Zuffa aquired. It had a fantastic run and very good cards every time. The prlims were fantastic the debacles were epic and I enjoyed it. Now I dont even get a little excited. Really sucks

Sonnen's Back Fist, - Oh it's not cool enough for your girlfriend? Off yourself, please. Phone Post

He's not the first guy here to bring up his wife's dislikes comments.... It's something I never understood maybe because I'm not married. Phone Post

Dude, this thread is SO off point.

Strikeforce was hugely popular before the buyout, do you think the UFC would've been interested otherwise?

I was actually more pumped up at times for Strikeforce cards than UFC cards.

The death blow was the botched Heavyweight tournament and subsequent buyout.

Now they appear to be an organization running on a shoestring budget. It's basically collapsed and it's running on it's last few shows.

They do little to no promotion at all now.

My girlfriend actually likes mma so she'll watch absolutely any card I wanna watch.

Sucks to be you.

WEC was better.  UFC should have killed Strikeforce and kept WEC for their minor leagues.  They cut people left and right that fans really like to watch.  WEC would have been the perfect home for these people, and then bring new people up from the WEC to the UFC, but insead they killed it and we get Strikeforce, which totally sucks now.

Wec was stuff of legend

Why all the negative posts? I think I presented a real issue with the strikforce brand. I just read the article on here where Kenedy was complaining no one showed up for the press conference because no one really cared about SF. People keep saying how great strikforce was doing before the UFC bought them, but the truth was they never got that great of ratings, and never earned very much money. I know this is an issue with the SF brand because I have heard this from a few buddies of mine who want to come over for a fight night but cant get their wives into it. My wife likes UFC, and watched most of them. We even spent 2 days of our honeymoon in New Jersey watching GSP vs. Hardy. She let me take an expensive trip to GA to watch JJ vs. Rashad. But every time I say Strikeforce she makes a face and say that weird dude? I was just pointing our that dudes that have girls in their lives end up doing a lot of things they want to do. I rarly post on here, but I thought this was a valid point. I always end up having to watch the SF events the next night she works. She would watch WEC though, which comes back to my point of Strikeforce being to over the top.
