WHY STRIKEFORCE WILL FAIL(IMO)

ultimoplata - ...American fans don't like two of anything.NFL,MLB,NBA,NASCAR,PGA,WWE,and now the UFC.Strikeforce is going to have to take the UFC out to make it,and that isn't happening.Enjoy it while you can and hope DREAM gets a lot of fighters when they fold.

This is one of the singular dumbest things I have ever read on the UG.

Does this OP jackass realize who Strikeforce has behind it?  Scott is the man, fo sure, but um, SVS hasnt lost a bet yet....

not a bad theory/analysis.

i think boxing is viewed as one overall sport regardless of org by the general fan but in the process Boxing is what it is today and we don't always see the best fights offered because of corruption/dick-tucking as opposed to contractual complications.

it does have some truth to it. but i hope you're incorrect.

Man, where have you grown up and how long have you been following sports? All of these had no competition when starting up in America and have been accepted as the "best of breed" in the sport they are in over time. What you see after are side affects mostly due to the popularity of the starter orgs.

It's not like the NFL,MLB,NBA etc... etc... were competing among 5 different other major players in their sport.

you my friend are a 'moran' if you believe your statement.

those sports specifically the NBA, MLB and NFL all had competing rivals that they eventually grew above or absorbed. no competition? of course they had competition in the early years of their development but they proved to be the big leagues.

for most the folks posting here these brands are all we know. i know the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL are the only orgs i remember watching, but i've also read up on the history of my favorite sports and know that they don't exist because there were no other choices when they started. they were just the best choices with the best players and thus usually the best product.

i think it was American Football League that actually had the best players and best competition but didn't have fan support and couldn't support itself, so when they eventually merged with the National Football League the whole game was turned upside down to what we see today. (don't quote me on that one, but i know that this was the scenario in one of the major sports orgs history)

anyways, the theory is a good one based on the history of other pro sports development

You, my friend are dead wrong.

Do the research, you quote 1 thing out of all these orgs, 1 thing the AFL and you tell me i'm a dummy?

...in the infancy(as MMA is in now)of those sports they all had rivals that fell away after one set itself apart.Perception is reality! Most people hear MMA and think UFC.As I sit here in Chicago about to watch Fedor on American soil,I wish it weren't true.It is though.

Post examples, I can just talk all day long too like I know what i'm talking about and spew shit.

PS: MMA is far from infancy there doctor.

Infancy was UFC 1.

UFC 105 coming up is mainstream and far FAR from infancy.

What you people don't realize is that Strikeforce is GOOD for MMA. It raises the salary and treatment level of UFC fighters. Without it, UFC would basically have a monopoly and take advantage of everyone.

ur actually wrong the AFL was formed because the NFL wouldnt let new owners into the league so they formed their own and were very successful. so much so that the NFL owners agreed to let them into the NFL, which is what they always wanted

2 strong orgs is always a good thing. the # 2 org will always be hungry and put their best foot forward every chance they get. the #1 org will always be on their toes and try to stay ahead of the competition. in the end fans win

Ryase - I just texted 3 people to remind them of the fights tonight and none of them knew anything about it. Pretty shitty considering they never miss a UFC and know Fedor is a badass.

So your 3 friends are gay, what's your point?

There's about 12 people at my house watching it right now.

you Sounds Like a loser . This show is a succses what ever out come of the fedor fight

hey that's cool if i'm wrong. i'll admit it. i just remembered there being a story about the AFL and NFL merger that was unusual. i thought it was that they had the best players and best matches but couldn't get the fans to show up.

but your version is interesting too :) and good business.

and i agree 2 strong orgs are good for the sport. the best example i can think of is the old wrestling rivalry of the WWF vs WCW. that was a good rivalry for the most part that constantly pushed both to provide the best entertainment. but like we've discussed here, most of these rivalries end with one passing the other and absorbing the weaker one in some manner.

but i don't want to see that with MMA

jave - You put "IMO" followed by speaking on behalf of every single American in the world. 303,824,640+ people.

Great post, i'm sure you speak for all 303,824,640+
