Why weird wrestling shoes?

I am a BJJ guy and have started wearing wrestling shoes. I have tried several pairs and one thing stands out: some have fully-covered soles, while others have soles that are part leather and part rubber.

Shoes with mixed leather-rubber soles don't have much traction depending what position your foot is in. Why do they do this? I notice this even with expensive wrestling shoes.

because too much traction s a bad thing on wrestling mats.

too much traction would not only slow you down, but it would cause more injuries to your ankles and knees when you roll.

your foot needs to give to avoid injuries sometimes.

so we walk a line between minimum traction and safety.
