Will Machida Rua Part Two Go Differently?

Will the rematch be a different fight if Machida is expecting the leg kicks as part of the game plan? Would Rua win the rematch or will Machida come in with a different game plan?

c'mon this already happened in the past.

Machida will win the rematch...

Think back to UFC 31...

The judges gave it to Randy Couture over Pedro Rizzo... even when Randy couldn't stand up after those leg kicks...

But Randy came back and whooped Pedro bad in the rematch...

Hmmmmm... Maybe the UFC judges just doesn't like Leg Kicks...

Machida finishes him in the rematch.

Rua doesn't deserve a rematch yet.  It's The Antidote's time.

Shogun is a bad matchup for Machida, I don't think Machida can really change his style this late in his life..

Especially since it dominates most of his division

Shogun said he'll use the same strategy in the rematch. He shouldn't have if it's true cuz now Machida will game plan for that. The one thing about Shogun though is that he's just as unpredictable as Machida so it'll be tough to really plan for him either way it goes

The rematch should be the very next fight for these guys, NOT 3 years from now!

...

Isn't he only like 25 or 26??

I think Machida's 30, I don't know why he wouldn't be able to change his style, or why he would need to change it dramatically.

Unless Machida changes his stance he'll get leg kicked into oblivion again.

Rua got fucking raped.  He won every round imo.

Machida needs to work his way back up the ranks before he can get another shot at Shogun. Shogun dominated every round, it was a definitive performance. No need for a rematch at all imo.

VTFU

Machidas stance has always been vulnerable against kicks. He keeps his head outside range but his lowerbody is still there. He simply never fought anyone in the UFC with the overall skills to do it

Sam Greco did it against him but he had no groundgame so Machida took him down

Machida's stance makes vulnerable to leg kicks. There's a reason you don't see shotokan stances in muay thai. Changing that stance, however, would make him just another kickboxer, and a less experienced one than Shogun.

Shogun will work his wrestling and finish him on the ground.

Except Couture won 3 of the 5 rounds, clearly, in that fight.

As opposed to Machida, who clearly lost all 5 rounds of this fight.

Shogun will probably feel he needs to be more aggressive in the rematch, and that could cost him.

Great point. A healthy Shogun is one of the few with legkicks fast and powerful enough to exploit Lyoto's wide stance. This will be a problem for Machida again in the rematch. He might have to look to get Shogun to the ground when they fight again.

Now watch, Dana says there will be an immediate rematch, and somehow the winnner of Tito/Forrest or Thaigo/Rashad gets a shot before the rematch happens...
