Will UFC RIO be lowest selling PPV of Zuffa era?

Two big reasons....

1. No big name draws on the card. The only two cases you could make would be Vitor or Aldo, but Aldo and Vitor have only had 2 UFC fights each since the big growth of the Ultimate Fighter "era".

2. Going head to head basically with the Broncos/Patriots game. Obviously there are MMA fans that aren't football fans, but this game is going to shatter ratings records and the same demographic that orders UFC PPV's is the same that watch football....18-34 male.

I can't think of another PPV that would've done worse than this will do.

My take is somewhere in the neighborhood of 200k.

I should've re-worded that too....instead of Zuffa era, post TUF era.

A Flock Of Seagals - Yeah.. because some fans are fucking morons.

This is a great card Vitor Belfort Vs Anthony Johnson? two vicious strikers.

Barboza Vs Etim will be a great fight...

And my boy Erick Silva will kick some ass.

I am pumped!!!

There is awesome fights shown for free all the time. Charging 60 bucks for this card is a joke

Lol people commenting at the quality of the card and totally ignoring the topic at hand.

This ppv will not do well. Phone Post

I'm DVR'ing the football game and watching it after the fights. The core audience is buying the fight either way. Phone Post

I think they will get enough viewers on National TV in Brazil to make up for the domestic numbers.

I'm not questioning the validity of the card or if the fights will be good. There has been a lot of talk about recent PPV's not doing great numbers, and I think this one will be the worst selling yet. Just curious if everyone agrees or thinks something different.

I'd be shocked if it does 200k buys, I guess 200k would be right around bottom for UFC's but with the Pats game with Tebow and this card lacking stars I'm not sure it will even hit 200k.

Still I'm buying it, I'm always down to support Aldo.

but this event is for Brazil.

Does it sell on PPV in Brazil or is it just on regular tv?

I don't think it makes up for it but it def helps in other ways

MMA is blowing up in brazil

Anderson just hit 1 million twitter followers

It's going to be a brutal PPV buyrate, I am sure the expectations are low. Fights are going to be great though, and I'm not a Zuffa shareholder, so I don't give a fuck if I'm the only one on Earth who buys it.

Ben Folds - I'm an mma fan first but I'm even watching the football game instead. This card doesn't interest me at all.

I too will be watching Denver/Patriot game, Aldo-Mendes to me doesn't quite hit the spot for me as a PPV worthy headliner, although the card is overall good, I don't believe it will have high numbers at all. Phone Post

TopGrinder -  the UFC r pumpin ufcs almost every week. They got it down to a science. The UFC is not living paycheck to paycheck but rather year to year. They know UFC Rio will not be a blockbuster but its an investment. It increases UFC awareness in Brasil in which they will benefit in future ppvs, merchandising, ticket sales.

Personally i will not buy this ppv. As an avid fan i will watch every ppv event regardless if i have to torrent or stream them. I use to buy every ppv card when they were once every 1-2 months but now i find it hard to justtify 60$ for a decent but not great card!

Great post.

Almost all of my friends are casuals, they all say the same thing...there are too many of them to buy all of them. There are many shows where it's just me and the couple other hardcores I know.

Blue Jesting - First off, anyone missing this card over a shitty football game is KAHRAAYYZZEEE <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Actually its a big football game but I personally wouldnt miss a UFC event for a football game, but this is Tebow and the Pats.

but the last time they played Pats spanked that ass, I expect the same thing happens in this game so I'll be watching Aldo/Mendes but most people will be watching the football game.

I don't understand why they want to go head to head with the NFL playoffs. To me, it makes no sense. To the diehard, they don't see it. However, there's going to be a lot of people in their home, friends home, parties, or bar watching the division round of the NFL playoffs. Why not wait a week when there's no Saturday NFL game?

Negative. Anyone who doesn't know what the word VALUE means is crazy.

"A fool and his money are soon parted"

Why are fans having such a hard time understanding that this card was made to fulfill Zuffa's tv contracts in Brazil? PPV is a plus. The card doesn't have an expensive payroll. UFC will do fine. 120k-150k should be the buy rate.

And you would be one of the guys who complain about fighters being underpaid. this card is worth 60 bucks.

At times sure, but as a consumer there just isnt enough reason to buy this.

I know you will probably give me shit for this, but if Im home ill probably stream this for me and some friends.

Sure its stealing, but honestly there was zero chance of us buying it. It keeps us up to date with fighters and will make us buy future cards. If it wasnt for streaming there would be a lot more people with no idea who the fighters are.

I wouldn't be up to date on tv technology if I didn't steal the latest models.
