Will we look back on Ronda as we now see Royce?

As the technical level rises in the UFC year after year, will we look back at Ronda 10 years from now as we now look at Royce? Will we see her success not so much as due to personal attributes but just as the superiority of a martial art (judo) that the rest of the competitors were ignorant about? Just as everyone now does bjj, will everyone be black belt level in judo as well 10 years from now?

We're starting to get better and better athletes in the UFC (GSP, Jon Jones, Sage, Conor, etc.). Maybe the next step is that black belt level skill sets in all ranges i.e. striking (boxing, karate, thai, etc), wrestling, judo, and bjj will not be exceptional but merely the minimum requirement for even thinking about going pro.

Royce faced bigger competition

Ronda is WAY ahead of everyone. Royce was like better but it was not always so easy for him to win.

Ronda is a fox in the henhouse. Nobody is stopping her. Nobody even looks like someone that could theoretically stop her.

well the ufc was not made as an infomercial to sell rousey judo..

Yes pretty much spot on, with the exception of willing to take on anyone even a single pound heavier than her.

Ronda is fighting women who are not exceptional athletes to begin with, or who are not exceptional in MMA. Look at her last fight and the up coming fight. 2 women who absolutely do not belong in a world title fight. Women's MMA is still so bad, other than a handful of pros, but even those are mostly spread out across different weight classes.

yes.

Kind of, in the sense that royce had terrible competition.

While I agree that Ronda is just beating waitresses, Royce is criminally underrated by fans who think they are smarter than they are.

You can't achieve what Royce did without being a seriously good fighter.

Never mind one pound heavier. She tends to fight smaller opponents. In this way, she's like Tito who became a household name off the Patrick Cotes and Yuki Kondos of MMA.

I think it is way too early to be including Sage in the same regard as JBJ, GSP and hell, even Conor.

This kid literally just had his first UFC fight and everyone is creaming in their pants. Good lord. Yeah yeah we all get it, he is probably gonna be really good, but he isn't there yet.

He is probably still 1-2 fights away from getting a top ten opponent. Let's see how he does then. Phone Post 3.0

Responded to wrong thread?

Hopefully the UG posters evolve in 10 years because some of them come up with some strange stuff nowadays.

Doesn't make any sense, you think judo is going to take off because of Ronda? Judo has been part of mens mma forever and it is probably one of the least effective bases. If there was something inherently great about judo, Yoshida and Karo would have been 2 of the all time greats

Women have been fighting in mma for 15 years or so?

It's a little unfair to compare someone who was around literally at the beginning to someone who came onto the scene 15 years after girls such as Tara LaRosa

I would agree if this was 2001

Also, Royce struggled and took a beating from the majority of people he faught against. In fact, the only reason he was competitive was because there was no scoring system or rounds. Women understand how to avoid any sub Royce would have had back then. Ronda is lightyears more athletic than him
