According to Compustrike statistics, GSP has successfully landed 46 of his last 55 takedown tries, an astouding 84 percent success rate. Included in that number is a perfect 2-for-2 against Koscheck at their UFC 74 encounter.

In that first fight, Koscheck took St. Pierre down once. According to Compustrike, St. Pierre has been taken down just four times over his last 13 fights. That Koscheck takedown of St. Pierre in August 2007 was the last successful try against him.

Koscheck knows it's crucial to set the tone early and stop St. Pierre's takedowns, or at least put doubt in his mind.

This training camp was the first in which Koscheck sat down to study film on his opponen. Alongside of him  was AKA teammate and former US Olympic freestyle wrestler Daniel Cormier.

"There are certain things that he does, things that he does with his takedowns," Cormier told MMA Fighting. " I can't say publicly what they are, but there are patterns we've picked up on. We're going to bring them to light on Saturday. There are things that we can see. When you've wrestled as long as Josh has and I have, there are things you can see. They are there. They really are."

For his part, St. Pierre says not to expect any of what you've seen in the past, explaining that he continually adjusts his game plans to suit his opponent.

"He doesn't plan to stand up,"St. Pierre said. "He's going to try to put me on the ground, and that's what I train for. He's been talking a lot. He's a very predictable guy. He's very easy to manipulate. I know him very well and he says he wants to stand up and bang? Everybody says that. But when you stand up and bang it's like you flip a coin and it's not the best guy that wins when you do that. It's not a smart way to fight."

Yes I think Wrestling will determine the winner, right along with grappling and striking...

Stupid thread Phone Post

imo gsp wants kos to fear the takedown so much, he leaves his face open to punches

To me the more I hear the more it sounds like GSP is inside Koscheck's head. Much more so then the other way around.

This. Rounds 1-3 will be takedown city which will set up the striking and eventual KO as per Roach's orders. ;)

 Of course.

GSP has already won one fight and outclassed Koscheck all around.

This is do or die for Koschek so I expect to see his A game.

Wrestling only determines who wins when one opponent doesn't have any grappling skills.

In this case, the only factor wrestling will have is who gets taken down. If GSP is taken down, it won't matter because of his bjj. If Kos is taken down it matters because of GSP's bjj.

Kos has got some KO power, but I don't know that he's all that good of a striker.

Actually, the bigger problem Kos has with GSP is that he doesn't mesh his striking with his wrestling, which GSP seems to do so well...
