win7 or 8.1?

I just bought a new pc that came with win8.1.

I have been using it now for a couple of days and I don't like it at all. I know that I will get used to it eventually, but it seems to me that 8.1 is less user friendly. It's too complicated to get to certain stuff like 'remove programs', window update and other features. With the start menu in win7, it's so easy and quick to just search for whatever you want to use.

Does 8.1 perform better in games? Why should i keep using it?

Also, I don't like the fact that alot of the programs want to know your location and that you have to use a microsoft account for everything. I like my privacy.

There are a bunch of small apps you can get that will give you the Win7 start menu inside Win8.1.

etc...etc....

3rd party programs are not always reliable with all the updates and changes happening though.

I would still like to know if 8.1 performs better than win7 in games and stuff like... hmm i dunno. browsing the og?

Try these and wait for Windows 10. Will be out next year and sounds good so far.

the computer came with a geforce gtx 760, if that helps answering the question.

8 is better for gaming Phone Post 3.0

Nobody likes windows 8. They skipped 9 (8.1) and went to 10.

Every other windows is really good. So windows X will probably be excellent. (XP,7, 10) (8.1 doesnt count) even Vista isn't bad (It's a resource hog)

I have a windows 8 tablet and it gave me a new found love of Win 8.1. The touch screen experience really does make the whole Metro thing come to life.

A touch screen is necessary for me to enjoy Windows 8. I tried Win 8 on a non-touch screen and it drove me bonkers to the point I took the computer back within a week.

If you have a touch screen, Win 8 + Office 365 make work flow much faster, at least for me. The syncing with SkyDrive makes my highly mobile work life a helluva lot easier.

With that said, the apps are hit and miss. The IE app sucks, bad. The newsfeed apps are ok if you're into that. If you like gaming, the Xbox glass app is virtually useless except for a few games. The Xbox games and music apps are pretty nice if you have a gold membership and a music account. I like the auto sync on Xbox music so my PC and phone have the same downloads if I want.

I never paid too much attention to Win 7, although it is much easier to navigate the control panel and settings menus. If you are reasonably functional with windows settings, Win 8 will be aggravating for awhile. My Win 8 trick is to use the command prompt instead of searching or flipping through multiple screens to get to the settings I want. Otherwise it can be a pain to find a particular settings menu.

Windows 8 will push a lot of people to Mac. For those wanting an OS that looks like what they are used to have a look at Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon. Looks and behaves like desktops always have.

Good stuff there AngryInch for those willing to stick it out.

Classic Shell is free while Start 8 is $5, you can choose whatever suits you best I like Classic Shell is does everything i want it to do. Oh these are start menus btw.

Getting to control panel is simple. Just right click the windows icon. Omg they changed it from left click to right click! How are we supposed to use this shit at all? Phone Post 3.0

Windows 8.1. Comes with a start menu, you dont need to download a third party one. Plus windows 10 is coming out soon which has been released already for people if they want to test it.

Windows 8.1 is great, but just different. Windows 10 improves on a lot of shit that windows 8.X doesn't include

The new Mac OS, yosemitie is kinda shitty. Whoever thought that spotlight should be in it's seperate window (also doesn't index your stuff correctly) is a tard.

Thanks!

I still think the learning is unreasonably high. It's just not faster to navigate than win7.

How does one switch back to 7 on a preinstalled 8.x computer? Do I have to find out exactly what hardware I have and find drivers for the main board, sound etc? Or will win7 do that for me?

^learning curve*

Windows key + x gets you alot what you need

Windows key takes you to metro start

Windows + d takes you to normal desktop

Once I learned those 8 became easy to use Phone Post 3.0
