WishMaster - cheesey 80's Horror Film Series

Ok i know this was made in '97 but for all intensive porpoises...

I always though film like this was made for the Fangoria crowd. Little rabid fanboys pointing out cameos from they favourite icons (in this case Freddy, Jason and Candu man). So being the hardcore horror hipster that I was I avoided this popcorn horror in search of seldom seen, obscure 70's exploitation that no none wants to watch.

But times have changed and I have embraced the commercialism of remake after reboot and the fact that Cronenberg's last 2 films were Maps to the Stars and Cosmopolis.

Which leads me to watching this. And boy was it fun. This was a nice change from all the haunted house/found footage/possession films I have been watching lately.

This is basically a rip off of Hellraiser and the Djnn a cut price Pinhead spouting similar lines but the film is full of silly, gore, almost imaginative deaths. In short - enjoyable bubblegum horror....Only 3 more Wishmaster films to get through now.

Face off:

Watched it back in the day, twas a good movie Phone Post 3.0

Been FOREVER since I've seen these. How many were there total - three or four?

Either way, I remember the first two being really good. After that, not so much. The last one looked like it was made in a high school film class or something.

Stick with the first two, avoid the rest.

i WISH you would have never made this thread!

deleted spoiler!

Oh shit I didnt mean to spoil it!

There are 4 - as least thats what I have. I will definably give the 2nd one one a look and then see where it goes from there.

I just found out that there is a 4th Subspecies film and a spin off which I plan and give a look. 2 and 3 were way better than expected and a lot better and different than the usual FUll Moon fare.

Same goes for Lake Placid - 3 sequels I was not aware off.

I have a whole month of drek ahead of me.

I missed this - did you really...

The weird thing is the people don't have to say I WISH...all they have to say is I LOVE.

I was 6 in 97 and this movie terrified me! Phone Post 3.0

I edited the spoiler

me and some friends watched the first 3 in one day. So many laughs were had.

I may try for the 4 Lake Placid films in one day this month. I think they are kinda short too. I imagine the sequels are shit but I am a sucka for Killer Kroc Films.

I just googled the directer for Wishmaster, Robert Kurtzman. He seems to be a Makeup guy with pretty good chops. He did direct 5 films - anyone see any of the other 4:

Deadly Impact
Buried Alive
The Rage
Wishmaster
The Demolitionist

You leave alexis davis alone! Phone Post 3.0

Saw them all. The guy who wished cancer on someone still is in my head when I start getting mad at people.

I think he asks him too, "do you really mean all of the terrible things?"

Also seemed a bit of a ripoff of Warlock? There were scenes in warlock when he asked what someone wanted in return for a jewel and then twisted it.

Best scene was watching everyone in agony in the beginning in the Mid East . Been a long time Phone Post 3.0

I quite enjoyed the series as a whole, there are some stupid mother fuckers who don't know how to word a wish properly. Phone Post 3.0

'Also seemed a bit of a ripoff of Warlock?

I totally got that as well.

Do they get worse as they go on - I presume they do as it very rarely goes the other way.

Wishmaster 1 & 2 are the best, 3 & 4 are just absolute let downs.

Yeah the lamest was when he ends up in prison. I really liked the first one but I was high a lot in the 80s so... Phone Post 3.0

I can never pass those up. I wish they were on all the time.

It was '97 - you were higher than you thought. Lol.

The prison one was number 2, I thought it wasn't bad but drop off from the original. I think the guy playing the jinn is great in corny sort of way. The director also made an excellent and under rated film called Alone in the dark, as well as the first (and shitty) Nightmare on Elm St. Phone Post 3.0
