Title might be a bit dramatic considering I'm still alive and healthy.
I've been waiting on a work comp settlement for over a year, and due to the injury was in a pretty shitty spot financially.
I just got a better job and had been kicking ass and was offered an opportunity for leadership, but it just requires a longer commute.
I woke up this morning feeling glorious my lawyer had called yesterday saying my check had come and I needed to come sign for it. Well I drove all the way there (2 and a half hours) and signed it just to find out I won't have access to the funds for another 3 weeks, wouldn't have been as bad but I barely even had enough money to make it home.
I start the way home and my front passenger side tire exploded and ripped the front end of my car to shreds. I would post pics if someone could tell me who to email them too.
My phone died to so I had to walk 3 miles in the fucking hood the closest store in a foreign city buy a charger and ask the Arab man if I could use his electricity.
While I'm waiting to find a ride I call my boss to explain the situation and tell him it may take me a few weeks to figure out the transportation issue and he says maybe it's not a good time to pursue the new role within the company if I don't have reliable transportation.
My life sucks. 
That does suck. Sorry man. Have a VU to not add salt to the wounds. 
Head up, significant settlement? Maybe it's time to pursue a new career path.

That doesn't sound THAT bad.
You're going to get a huge check in 3 weeks. You already live paycheck to paycheck so the tire blowout and extra tank of gas shouldn't completely screw you since you're already kind of screwed. Even if they do, you're still good in 3 weeks.
Probably just should have told your boss that with your new position (and presumed raise?) you'd get a new car.
You were on the hook for a raise and instead didn't lose your job.
Hopefully your insurance or tire warranty can cover the cost of the car repairs.
