I mean the fact that he didn't tap to the vaporizer is insane, but what if Eddie locked in the Twister? Not tapping to the twister could cause a lot of damage. I've been caught in them, and I always tap before they are able to crank just because I don't want them to, and I doubt my training partners would crank it on me. On the flip side, I couldn't see Eddie going all the way with the twister if Royler didn't tap.
At that level, everyone cranks it. That being said, Royler wouldn't tap.
Maybe his corner would throw in the towel? Who knows...
It does raise an interesting point.
We often tap to joint locks simply because we BELIEVE that they really have us "checkmated"--tap or snap, so to speak.
And with certain locks, that's plainly true. Smaller joints in particular. For example, whether it's Rousey/Tate or any number of tournament vids, we've all seen armbars being applied, refusals to tap, and busted elbow joints as a result.
But it seems possible that while some joint locks and cranks may THREATEN a joint, the person applying it may actually not have the position to fully destroy the joint. Eddie said on the JRE that he went "all out" on that vaporizer but that because of Royler's pant grab, he just couldn't really bust the knee or ankle. Some "pops," yes, but full break? No.
I've never seen a twister not get a tap, so who knows if it actually could cause spinal injury? Feels like it should . . . but then again that vaporizer feels like it should too.
It's a noteworthy idea from a self defense standpoint.
As someone observed the other day, when it comes to self defense, it looks like the choke is still king.
I think so. If not I think his corner or someone there would have stopped it. Worse case scenario on the vaporizer is nowhere near worse case scenario of a twister. I'm not even sure what would happen to a fully cranked/extended twister, but it has to be something bad. The Defcon 4 variation (I think that's it) would be that much worse.
Hearing Eddie talk about giving Royler opportunity to tap to the vaporizer makes me think he wouldn't go apeshit on a twister. Definitely give him respect for that.
I agree. I couldn't see Eddie hurting him with a twister if he didn't tap. The vaporizer is a different story. A jacked up leg is nothing compared to a jacked up spine.
Anyone been hurt from a twister? What happens if you crank it as hard as you can and they don't tap?
TexDeuce - Anyone been hurt from a twister? What happens if you crank it as hard as you can and they don't tap?I'm sure eddie said he busted someone's knee with it
