Would I go to be on t.v.? No.
Would I go for the betterment of mankind? Yes.
It would be one of the most important missions for a human up to this point. Mankind is worth more than a single life.

Mankind worth more than a single life... to whom?
Seriously, think about that.
I hope I'm alive to see it when it eventually happens.
We badly need another moon landing moment.
Jambo888 -I've always wanted thousands of women wanting to fuck me when I'm on another planet, with maybe a month before I die
hell yes. just think of all the women that would want to sex you!

BarkLikeADog - "I wonder how they will decide who goes? "That's interesting they're not just looking for traditional astronauts
The main thing they're looking for is personal emotional compatibility in small teams. It's a long haul in a small box & everybody goes crazy out there eventually. Patience, low affect, low libido, etc.
I talked to somebody in the current cut for a while. Didn't seem like the traditional astronaut stuff (high intelligence, piloting skill, small frame, etc.) was even on the table yet.

FatFrenchFry -I think you're forgetting about all the fine ass Martian bitches that will be waiting for him.Jambo888 -I've always wanted thousands of women wanting to fuck me when I'm on another planet, with maybe a month before I die

I wouldn't do it only because I have kids. If I didn't I wouldn't hesitate. The chance to actually do something significant for all of mankind is enough for me, throw in the crazy mars orgies sign me up
I can't even fly to DFW without feeling like I need to have my last rites

To me.
If my life could significantly improve our condition as a whole I would give it.
If I knew for a fact that somehow my life would result in the cure for cancer, AIDS, the colonization of Mars or some other incredible progression I would do it.
Think about it, men give their lives for their country, or small ideals every day. Think about Nathaniel Hale's famous quote "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Now apply that to mankind as a whole.
FatFrenchFry -slo ko - Colonizing Mars before the moon doesn't make a lot of sense to me.There's water, and theoretically potential for an atmosphere
I'm pretty sure Mars One plans to set up on the moon and launch from there.
Why do that when I can just be on judge Judy?
Dead President - Do I still have access to the OG?It's all about priorities.

I think a long term base on the moon seems like a better start. Why not use the moon as a test bed for mars? Much easier, cheaper and faster to send up supplies and communicate. Build a colony up there with people living for 10-15 years or so. They would learn a lot.
Still have it be a one way trip, but supplies could be sent up very frequently.
Someone is going to go crazy, and murder everyone. All for the people at home to see.
Holy fuck is the species in sad shape if "being on a reality show" is a bigger enticement than "participating in perhaps the most important thing humanity has ever done."
