Ok I know that when you harvest rice you have to be in the paddy
But how come every time the U.S. Gunship flies over the rice paddy there are people in Raiden hats harvesting the rice?
What exactly are they doing to the rice? They should let it grow and leave it the fuck alone. Why are they constantly in the rice paddy fields? Does rice really require this much work?
Fuck man maybe they should grow beans or pasta if rice is sooooo high maintenance. My great grandfather used to grow a shitload of pasta back in the day. Matter of fact the Spaghetti Harvest was one of my favorite times of the year. Endless bowls of spaghetti in August.
lol
JasonJ - are you ever going to shut the fuck up about these race threads already, you faggot? You spelled Rice wrong homie. I'm sorry if you don't have an appreciation for the worlds most cultivated cereal grass.
I guess you are a wheat kind of guy?

Same thing I thought when I went to TJ and didn't see one bandito wearing a burlap poncho and sombrero.
As far as the rice goes, though, they're very poor and must pick each grain by hand so it is an ongoing process that never really stops.
I laughed. Jinx has a good point.
Freaky_Hibiki - Same thing I thought when I went to TJ and didn't see one bandito wearing a burlap poncho and sombrero.Holy shit. There are hundreds of thousands of grains per square foot. Are you serious?

Lol at US gunships. Did u just watch some Vietnam war movie?
Yes, rice paddies require a tremendous amount of work.
In fact, it's similar to how the culture works. Small amounts of land that is constantly worked in minute detail. That is the asian way.
North Americans have large lands that they farm in bulk. they can afford to be lax on the smaller details.
There is a great book called "Outliers" that explains this.
You really should read it.
Dougie -Do you know any actual real farmers? Not trying to sound like a jerk, but good farmers don't skip and minute details. The ones I grew up with anyways.

Farmers back home have old trucks that have never done much more than idle in gear. They just put it in gear and creep along their fields checking for every little detail they can.

I always figured that was like having a vegetable garden at home.
this motherfucker from Thailand shows how you harvest rice for the masses and can buy it for pennies a pound:

Neat
Rice needs a lot of protein.

I think you are either misunderstanding what I am trying to say or I have not said it well. I live in Farmland. My neighbours are farmers. I literally help them during times of the year when they need help.
I am not saying that Farmers in North America are worse than in Asia. It's just different.
The farmer in North America farms large tracts of land. The farmer in asia is in a smaller rice paddy .
If you think that farmers in north america farm like they do in asia you would be wrong.
The asian farmer has far less land to work with and as such constantly work the smaller plot of crops they have to an infinate detail that they don't do in north america.
It's hard to believe because the guys here I know use GPS to cover planting patterns, weeding, rocking, etc. It's not a matter of the north american guys working less hard, it's a matter of them having larger tracts of land and they cannot possibly micromanage the crop like the asians do.
Again, I am not saying it's better or they work harder, it's just different. It's a culture thing too. In north america its a matter of growing as much as possible to make it in bulk. Like everything, bigger is better, bulk means better etc etc. In asia it's a quality thing. farmers want the best quality because they all have smaller lands to work on. No one has larger bulk for the most part.
Please don't think I am saying north american farmers don't work hard and try to cover as much as they can in minute detail. As well, this is a generalization. I can't speak for every farmer to farmer comparison.
Op should have put this thread in rice.
