didnt' takada attend a ufc to make an announcement that fujita and sakuraba were going to fight in a ufc event? wtf happened?
Are you talking about in 97'? Sakuraba did fight in the UFC Japan 1, in the heavyweight tournement, which he won (partly in thanks to Tank Abbot breaking his hand and BJM's reffing fuckup in Sak's first fight). Takada was there in his corner.
Sakuraba moved on to Pride, but interestingly, at the time, if he'd stuck in the UFC, he probably would have faced Randy in his next fight or so. But Sak probably decided to stick in Japan and fight for a homecrowd and better paycheck.
Ask Sak how much Pride pays him per fight. Ask Dana how much he's willing to pay for Sak.
There you have your answer.
I?ve read that Saku has a serious problem with travelling on airplanes and really doesnt want to fight outside Japan. No joke.
I'm pretty sure Sak cornered Matsui in some fights either in KotC or Cage Rage, so obviously he'll fly if he has to.
Great point!
anybody think fujita could do very well in the ufc? he has great takedowns and stays busy enough to win decisions. nobody is going to ko the guy and hell he rocked fedor badly that one time.
IIRC, UFC was going to Japan for a show with Mir, but he broke his leg and the show never haPPened. Maybe Sak was going to fight on that card and not have to fly. Just a thought.
Hmmnnn, I remember about the proposal, just for the life of me I couldnt recall who they talked about sending over. Especially Sak didnt spring to mind.
Takada said that they were going to send Fujita and Sakuraba. Remember though that Inoki and Pride had a falling out, and Fujita was under Inoki's wing so he was no longer a part of Pride for a while. Now that Fujita is free from Inoki's management/control there might be a chance of Pride sending him over if that is his wish. As far as Sakuraba goes, I wouldn't count on it.
