X-Agon forced to new venue

In what can only be described as a jaw dropping decision, the UNSW has decided that although they had sanctioned an MMA event onsite, they would not sanction a cage fight. Apparently we all have it wrong and MMA is not cage fighting. Based on this "misleading information" the Uni cited a tiny clause hidden in their contract whereby they could cancel an event at their absolute discretion and have decided not to allow the fight scheduled for October 5th to go ahead.

You have to know that this contract was signed and paid for in full THREE MONTHS AGO!

Do you think it may be a little political that they waited until only 7 days before the event to notify us? I guess that they thought with barely 7 days to go, 3 of them being a long weekend, they would stop the fight from pressing on.

I guess they have no concept of our fighting mentality. Push us and we are going to belt you, put a barrier in front of us and we are finding a way around.

Now I am not a religous man, but I have to think that divine intervention had to play a part in the fact that the York theatre at the Seymour Theatre Centre in Newtown was not being used this Friday -surely a miracle! Despite the fact that it made toilet paper of our budget, to postpone to a later date it would have been devastating to the fighters prepared to fight in a few days time.

In fact the York theatre is almost made to hold fights, with the stage in the centre of horseshoe shaped seating. The back rows are only 12 rows from the stage, making it an even better venue than before.

With only 6 days to the event word of the new venue needs to get out there. If you are reading this post try to imagine me on bended knees, tears in my eyes as I plead with you personally to let everyone know.

Please spread the word - X-Agon first round, this Friday October 5th now at the Seymour Theatre Centre, corner Cleveland St and City Road (almost behind the Aquatic centre where the BJJ comps are held).

If you need further details call me on 0402 335084.

I hope to see you there.

Ivan

It might just be me, but a lot of folks seem to take issue with the 'cage' in its varying forms (take a look at the situation in WA).

I've not heard of MMA 'in a ring' having as much trouble as its 'caged' brother.

I think the cage might be causing more trouble than it's worth?

Devestating blow!

Good that you have found another option. How far appart are the old & new venue?

This must be a massive pain in the ass, keep ya chin up Paulo!

Justin

Spread the word, guys!! Support the sport!!

Thats shit........

new venue sounds much better!

fuck those pricks trying to pull a swifty.

imagine their pain when MMA blows the fuck up in OZ! ;)

Get rid of the cage.

They make it harder to see and have too much impact on the fight.

and im with armbar as soon as joe goodytwoshoes sees cage they see red .

My 2 cents

See what happens when there is no MMA in school curriculums?

Should be a better venue anyway, and some great fights.

MMA events in Sydney are here to stay.

"See what happens when there is no MMA in school curriculums?"

My little bloke watched his first UFC at 6 weeks old. He'll be taking the curriculum with him.

Is that the same venue where the relatively recent street fight outside whilst the BJJ competition was inside? I thought it was a uni venue too.

I wonder if that incident influenced the decision at all?

The idea of having a MMA event using a ring is ok but the problem starts when the boxing comission has the right to interfere exactly because its in a boxing ring and they are not MMA friendly at all in NSW.

So having it in the cage is one more reason to avoid problems with them besides the cage is safer once the fighters cant fall out of it and brings a great atmosphere for the event in my opinion.

See you all tomorrow at the show!

Cheers,

Paulo.

Go HARD Paulo!!!

Hopefully BJJ can grow with this show - hope it's a clean incident-free night!

TTO.

I'm looking forward to this.
