Yoel Romero

Who is he fighting next? I tried looking it up and I can't find anything. If Romero has nothing lined up right now, here is the case to get him a title eliminator next, then a fight with Weidman if he wins that.

1) He had a late start and is getting old, so his window of opportunity is closing. The sooner we see him at the highest stage, the better.

2) He beat Cael Sanderson two out of three times. That means his level of wrestling was pretty ridiculously high. Had he been American, he very well could have been a three- or four-time NCAA champ.

3) He is absurdly athletic. I watched him when he wrestled, and I watch him fight now. He is a physical freak. He's extremely coordinated, extremely strong, extremely quick, and he picks things up fast. He looks loose -- almost lazy -- and then he attacks with a lot of power and speed. Very fun to watch, whether its wrestling or MMA.

4) He started fighting around the time Chris Weidman started fighting. So there is no reason to think he'd be overmatched.

5) A title fight could help jump start Cuban MMA. Cubans always have world- and Olympic-medalists in wrestling, judo, and boxing. So there's a lot of talent and knowhow on that island. I'd like to see how these Cubans would look in a cage.

Currently my favorite prospect to watch

Helwani reported on UFC tonight that he had spoken with Yoel's manager and they want Kennedy or Dollaway.

They're in talks but apparently both Kennedy and CB are a little banged up at the moment.

They prefer Kennedy because he's higher ranked but everything's just up in the air right now.

DC mentioned that Rockhold is the only MW with no match up and Kenflo said Romero and Rockhold would make for an interesting fight.

I personally would love to see him against Kennedy, he's ranked #6 so that would provide Romero with a nice jump into the rankings.

I got Romero over Kennedy and CB but I think Rockhold would be a huge step up in competition for him, Rockhold's nasty. Phone Post 3.0

VU and gotta love the soldier of god Phone Post 3.0

Thank you sir, VU for you as well!

Who would you guys prefer to see Yoel up against next between Kennedy, Dollaway and Rockhold and why?? Phone Post 3.0

I've wondered why he hasn't had more of a following, he arguably has the best wrestling credentials with a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics and various other wins over notable names. And yet 7 of his 8 wins are by KO/TKO, his flying knee TKO nearly made me chip my own teeth. Phone Post 3.0

Romero is a beast. One of my new faves. Hes awesome Phone Post 3.0

I've been dropping his name in the list of guys to keep their eye on in the MW division, the guy is amazing, the only thing that worries me about him is his age.

I would love to see him fight CB Dolloway next though, both have looked great in their recent fights.

Rockhold although, not sure Rockhold would agree..

I like:

Romero vs Kennedy

Rockhold vs CB dolloway.

I think Romero can beat anyone on the planet @185 pounds. Bump me in a year when he's the champ. Phone Post 3.0

It sounds ridiculous to question Romero's wrestling considering his credentials, but I'd like to see how it holds up against the better fighters at middleweight. He seems to struggle in that area far more than an Olympic silver medalist should, and I find that intriguing.

Romero is one of those guys like Cain, Jones and Barao that looks destined to be a champ.

I think he's still a bit too reckless with his striking but he'll give Weidman all he can handle if/when they fight. Phone Post 3.0

Yeah, he's exciting. Athletic as hell and world class wrestling. I'm always interested to see him fight. Romero vs. Kennedy would be great.

Romero-Kennedy was just announced. They'll fight at UFC 178. This is a great fight. Can't wait.

VU once the ability returns!

Super stoked, that's the fight I wanted! With Jones vs Gus 2 headlining, I may have to go and see this one live.

I hope Romero dominates! Phone Post 3.0

His rivalry with Les Gutches was awesome. Phone Post 3.0
