You can't sell the sport on one heavy weight fight

You cannot sell the sport on one heavyweight fight, it is a massive gamble and is unlikely to display many of the fantastic techniques and athleticism we have become familiar with. It could but it was huge gamble that didn't pay off. Even that ear punch will not play well with the mainstream.

I support the UFC and Dana. No one is perfect and he has been the godfather to MMA but I think this was too big of a gamble. i'm still behind Dana and Fertitta's but I think this is one of the few occasions they got it wrong business wise before the event.

Onwards and upwards. Sorry it didn't work out. I love MMA, we love MMA. next time we will kill it

Agreed...

HW MMA is totally different from HW Boxing.

Even though the Klitscko's are about as boring as that fight.

Agreed...big gamble and it didn't go their way.

I agree. Dana sold out. Soooo uneventful. Did Dana forget the UFC was his? Phone Post

I was disappoint. Show one fight that ends immediately. A Forrest/Bonnar type fight would have been much better. Or at least set it up so you have room for another fight at the end. They wasted forty mins showing clips from the primetime show we had already seen. Phone Post

The armchair CEOs will come out of the woodwork and tell everyone how they knew this was a horrible idea all along.

GTFO. It's a learning process guys, and Dana and Lorenzo will adapt

Jesus Christ we are entitled to our opinion. You make out like Dana plans his mistakes you fucking conceited douchebag. I support Dana but it's fair to say that this was a wrong move. I can't stand sheep like you. You have no back bone or integrity. It's not like I am shitting on UFC or Dana or MMA or anything....muppet

Defend all you want American jujitsu.

Plain and simple, 2 fights in an hour is not a reach. Anything else is selling out MY sport Phone Post

I agree to a certain extent. HVY is a notorious division for quick or sloppy fights. There are great moments, but it's usually not a division you'd say THIS is MMA about.

GSP or Jones should have been the premiere fight on Fox.

I still say one fight events for MMA are a terrible idea. Too many variables in MMA for that to ever work. Fights can end in 10 seconds.

Admit it. If things went smooth (fight went longer) they could've very well sold it on one fight. It's Live TV dude, what do you expect?

I love how everybody's hindsight is 20/20.

Definitely not a Dana sheep. I'll be the first to knock him if he really fucks up.

But the dude puts on a fucking HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT ON FREE TV, and all people can talk about is how it was a horrible idea.

How about this. You pay 60$ to go watch Marquez dance around Pacman for 36 minutes and I'll watch JDS knockout Cain in a minute for free.

Great for us!!! But this about going mainstream idiot. My point sailed over your head and landed in a field 3 miles away. Christ

Just woke up. Still feel the same....

Thanks to better another UG poster.........."What a battle. Not showing this on FOX before the heavyweight title fight was a HUGE missed opportunity for the UFC. Can you imagine Guida vs Henderson being the first MMA fight you've ever seen? There'd be many, many new fans made tonight. Dana White is probably crying himself to sleep right now."

notsobigmike -  People realize the UFC was contractually obligated to show only one fight, right? HW championship fight between two KO artists was by far the best choice for that fight. Phone Post

I get the impression people don't realize this.  I would have loved for this fight to have gone longer, but it was two of the best and anything can happen in mma.   It's not like this is the one and only chance the UFC will have to make new fans.

Really? Cause I watched three fights last night. The first was Henderson vs Guida which was a great fight to start the evening.

Mike Tyson's career was ignited from first round KO's so dont tell me that hurts the product they are trying to sell. The average fan loves to see KO's.

The third fight was another sick KO. I thought last night was a success.
