I think this was kind of a trendy thing about 10 years ago in high end residential builds. I remember seeing it in magazines like DWELL, and AD. IIRC, even IKEA had a knockoff/take on it.

Carpeted pool room just feels like it’s Wilt Chamberlain’s house.
