I drove over from Holland for a Tigers game. I thought our roads were bad on the west side of the state. Something needs to be done about our roads.
They clearly missed a bunch of people.

My family is here. My wife and I have thought about leaving Michigan when the kids are gone but our careers are here as well as friends, etc. Not so simple to just leave.

I just left Michigan after working there for a year. Really hated that place.
I love living in Grand Rapids. Also Groupon just ranked GR as the #1 tourist destination in the USA for 2015. Not every city in Michigan is detroit.

I answered this earlier, but thought better of it.
My personal story is I did leave, but I have a medical condition and was forced to return so family could care for me.
Overall, there are 4 reasons people stay in Michigan
1) Family. People don't want to leave their family.
2) Too poor. Not everyone can afford to leave.
3) Older people who made their fortunes working in automobile are now retired here. There are a lof of old people in Michigan.
4) Some people LIKE it. I don't. But if you hunt, fish, play golf, and bowl, then Michigan is the best place for you. We have more golf courses and registered bowlers than any other place in the world. We have HUGE inland lakes as well as the Great Lakes. White tail deer and game birds are plentiful here.
