I am having a discussion with a "true martial artist" is of the opinion that MMA is nothing but glorified street fighting. Normally I wouldn't bother to engage, but this person doesn't seem to be a total retard. I am trying to think of great matches where there was exceptiional battles for control.
The one that is spraining to my mind was Karo Parisyan and Nick Diaz. I remember it being very entertaining with some lightning quick transitions back and forth...
But, yea, figured it would be an interesting topic at the very least.
Newton/Sakuraba is an obvious choice.
Uno/Hansen
Diego/Diaz
Hughes/Trigg I
And of course, loads of Tokoro fights.
Nog and Barnett 1 and 2 were good.
Nog/Barnett I, definitely. I don't think they went to the ground for any length of time in the second, did they? It was almost entirely standing if I remember right.

Damn its been a while.They didnt?Maybe not.I remember disagreeing w/both decisions though.
Recently my favorite is bam bam Healy and fancy pants demonstrate some good ol fashion wrestling scramble chess match
That was pretty 1 sided, and more a result of size vs skill. Healy was just to big to hold off for 3 full rounds.
Josh Thomson vs Pat Healy was very good.
