Zuffa banning sponsors for Strikeforce?

This is business as usual. The UFC did this like 4 years ago. There was an uproar then most people payed and were done with it. I Believe it was 100k back then so this is a discount. There more to this story then the headline. I'd love to have a company owner elaborate if possible. Phone Post

UltraMagnus - And by buying out the competition and bullying them to lower ranks means less and less ways to view other shows and other outlets or promotions of this sport.......

They keep going like this the sport will be dead....

you should be more realistic while you're going on your anti-ufc rants.  the sport is going nowhere.  the real tragedy here is the fighters losing money because businesses can't afford to sponsor them.

THIS!

So a fighter has to pay to fight just starting out at the bottom rung fucking sucks Phone Post

i really have a feeling the ufc will implode someday, we dont know half the shit that goes on behind the scenes, thers only one thing on their minds, not the fighters, not the fans but money and how to be as cheap as possible to make..... yes more money, the old plain boring ass ufc production should let people know right away how cheap bastards they are

^ exactly right. they are CHEAP AS FUCK. haven't changed the intro for years!!! So miserly it's disgusting.

somehow, the writers that troll the UG for content, don't think they will be touching this one.....

Another avenue of income taken away for fighters. This is the epitome of the rich getting richer ! If you are a small up and coming Business you will not have any opportunity to sponsor a fighter. And if you are a young up and coming Fighter you will only have certain avenues to pursue sponsorship which will lead to low value sponsor dollars.

Bud light ain't gonna sponsor a up and coming Fighter, but a small local brewery might and can't now unless they have $$$$$.

Hopefully this ain't true , but I'm sure it is. Phone Post

Thanks to Mr. Davis for the confirmation.  Totally sucks for the fighters.

kudos, john joe....

Haha, yeah, I'm sure the MMA "media" will be all over this. ;-)

AJDavis - The same policy that is used in the UFC is now in place at Strike Force. Sponsors must pay a fee in order to endorse athletes fighting in Strikeforce.

other than thinking i run MMAFA, which I don't, just write there occasionally,... good piece

Not really that surprised. Zuffa is trying to attract blue chip sponsors and this is one way to do it. Nike does not want to be seen along side random local gun shop or a condom shop. They want to be seen with the likes of Bud, Ford, Harley, etc. It's really not that hard to understand. Look at what MusclePharm is doing (check the site and see who they sponsor) and you'll get an idea of the kinds of brands they want to support. Yes the fighters loose in the interm, but in the long term this is the way to grow the sport and get more money in. Besides, blame the fighters managers for not finding better deals rather than Zuffa for trying to improve the sport we love. Was WWI or WWII popular? were they necessary?

This sport is not yet a "major" and therefore can't pay as much, attracting the big blue chip sponsors and getting a network tv deal will.

Nice, although someone should tell him his article says "January 9" instead of "June 9."
