Zuffa Wins!

So my my son takes gymnastics. He's new to the team and is talking to the established kids during a break. One kid starts talking that his dad is an army vet. Pretty cool but my son trumps him. My son tells everyone that his old man is a 'UFC' fighter. Instant score! even the coaches are impressed.

Like it or not, the UFC is the Zerox, Q-tip and Band-aid of the MMA world. They are the defining brand name and everyone else is playing catch-up. Outside of those in the know, the UFC is essentially MMA. Promotions like Affliction will need to endure years of loss and figure out a way to burn the name onto the public psyche. Oherwise, short of the UFC being linked to funneling funds to al-Qaida, they are what the rest of the world hears when someone says MMA. The biggest stars on a card only really count when they are attached to the biggest brand.

Discuss..

 You may be right , but so what . You have to start somewhere . I would rather have fighters working and being payed rather than 2 fights per year.

Just saying that the formula is wrong. Affliction should be pushing the name first, fighters second. once you're established, then you make a move with big name fighters.

your kid is a TUF noob

I wish my dad was a UFC fighter

"I think the brand is established by the names, therefore, the names (fighters) should come first."

Agreed. The talent roster is much more important than the brand name.

Shouts of "pro wrestling sucks!" aside, look at the ratings wars between WCW and WWE in the 90s-early 2000s. It wasn't about brand names. The promotion dominating was the one with the better headliners and angles at the time.

The fans are the real winners/thread.

ttt

I think you may be wrong all together. I have five neighbors within 300 yards of my house who ONLY watch the non UFC stuff because it is free. They are quicker to tell you who Urijah Faber or Bigfoot is than know of any of the non title holders in the UFC. My feeling is that just as many people watch all the other orgs. When people feel a connection with the fighters in other orgs then they will start spending money on the PPVs.

Tampons of MMA IMO.

 UFC = Exlax

Affliction = Dulcolax

...

Wow, so his dad is a UFC fighter? Well from what I hear, so is EVERYONE else's. Dont you know EVERYONE trains UFC?

"They are quicker to tell you who Urijah Faber or Bigfoot is than know of any of the non title holders in the UFC."

There are UFC guys who have fought for free on TV a lot more than Bigfoot has. Actually the UFC has free shows on basic cable while Bigfoot has only been on a premium channel.

Look at Zerox now....

"Look at Zerox now."

$14B market cap?

Bones -  UFC = Exlax
Affliction = Dulcolax

Would that make Elite-XC = Turbolax?????

But the reality is a UFC fighter does not trump an army vet. Unfortunately it is a society brainwashed and star strucked on hollywood and holds a too high importance to tv shows and the like.

You are 100% correct. Just goes to show you what a Brand name can mean and what power it can wield.

Ray Jackson -  " So my my son takes gymnastics."

BEEP!

Don't get it twisted. he's a fighter first and foremost. He's been competing since he was 5. He just won a national tournament in Wisconsin and routinely fights (and beats) kids 4 and 5 years older than him.

the gymnastics is just adding to his skill set. He is a beast in the making!
