5 Fighters who you feel didn't reach potential

Title says it all - one of the following

5 Fighters you feel didn't reach their potential

5 Who's potential you are excited for

5 Who you miss in the UFC (retired or not)

(edited)

Before I begin let me be clear. I'm not here to bash any fighter, just a topic of discussion and personal opinion.

5 who did not reach:

Jeremy Jackson - I was excited after seeing the footage that's out there of him (the Diaz fights, etc). The TUF situation happened. Then Unfortunately personal problems got to him, I don't know him, and for the sake of respect and recent threads...no comment.

Quinton Jackson - The only unified LHW champion (Pride/UFC). Defended in a tough fight with Hendo, and then came Forrest. Alot of people came down on him over his style, and he came down in return over the style of his opponents. I felt Rampage could've held that belt for awhile (Fan bias). Granted Rampage's career is still active, I would love to see him knock himself off my list.

Ryan Gracie - RIP, your sessions rolling were every bit as watchable as your fights to me. Nuff said

Ramieau Sokodjou(Spelling?) - If you blast Arona and Lil Nog like that, come on.

Keith Jardine - I Miss the Dean of Mean, but at the point he was cut it was hard to argue. He was the guy people were looking at coming into season 2 of TUF if I remember correct.

5 Who's potential i'm excited for:

KJ Noons - Hes got some solid take down D, and his striking game is fun to watch

Joe Lauzon - I love Boston, I'm a born New Englander, and I want a New England savage holding a belt. Especially one like this

Jon Jones - Whether I like him or not, out of the question. Young, super talented, and it will be interesting to watch his career (see if he loses/moves divisions)

Nate Diaz (Diaz fan bias) - Talented, Nick I believe is a good leader for him, and he has a camp full of talented guys that when he fights is dedicated to him.

Showtime Pettis - Showtime bias baby.

5 Who you miss:

Keith Jardine - Always loved watching Keith scrap

Jens Pulver - Loved the Jens Documentary, and his career. Wish he hadn't have broken his power hand so many times as well.

Chris Lytle - If you don't miss Lytle. I hope your phone/computer shocks the life out of you

Pedro Rizzo - the ROCK

Randy Couture - the NATURAL

and apologies for weird txt, not sure what happened there.

Didn't live up to potential.
1. Paulo Filho
2. Shane Carwin (Due to injuries and late start to the sport)
3. Ken Shamrock
4. Karo Parisyan
5. David Terrell

Excited for.
1. Gunnar Nelson
2. Charles Oliveira
3. Stefan Struve
4. Michael McDonald
5. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Who I miss.
1. Chuck Liddell
2. Fedor Emelianenko
3. Chris Lytle
4. Andre Galvao
5. Ricardo Arona

Vidz, I wasn't even thinking about Parisyan and Terell those are good additions. Shame with Karo's back

5 Who's potential you are excited for:

1 Gegard Mousasi (move to UFC)
2 Khabib Nurmagomedov
3 Gunnar Nelson
4 Chris Weidman
5 Damian Maia (move to 170 lbs)

^^^

if you get another and name it 'Takayama'.....much respect.

Karo was a mess of injuries and substance issues. He could made some serious waves in the welterweight division. He might have even pulled off the upset in his scheduled bout with Matt Hughes for the title.

Even though they're former champs I think Brock and Frank Mir could have been so much more dominant if they weren't taken out by illness (diverticulitis) and injury (motorcycle crash).

The only names that come to my head right now are:

  • Guillard
  • Lesnar (Former HW Champ, but he had so much more potential)
  • Terrell
  • Arona
I know you said five, but I'm kinda tipsy.

Chaelismyhero - I believe MTB came out of retirement.

Perhaps, but not as the dominate fighter he used to be at 145.

Legit LOL

I'd like to add Cung Le to my list. When he was doing movies at his prime he had some serious MMA potential. Not saying he could have gotten through Andy, but damn... it would have been one to watch.

5 Underachievers

BJ Penn - Two time champ still could have done much more than he did. How did he not beat Jon Fitch?

Tank Abbott - Would it have killed him to jog a couple of miles? His record would have been worlds better had he been able to last longer than 3 minutes.

Brock Lesnar - Just imagine what type of beast he could have been if he actually had any passion for the sport

Vitor Belfort - He seems to have gotten over the mental and emotional issues that he has had to deal with over his entire career.

Mark Kerr - The perfect example of a woman ruining someone's life. Way to go, Mark Kerr's ex-psycho girlfriend.

Didn't live up:
Guillard
Lesnar
Rockwell

Excited for:
Rory Mac
Trujillo
Gustafson
Edgar at 145

All time favs:
Predator
Hoost
Natural
Penn (might fit in didn't live up too as he was supposed to be unbeatable at 155)

Sorry if I jacked up spellings, I am high on pain killers. >.> Phone Post
