All saturday night events except for march 23rd which is a test to see how a sunday event would do. No planned events yet during the world cup. And may 31st is usually the memorial day weekend ppv in vegas. That's going to be the tuf finale (wand vs chael).... if you place weidman vs vitor on that card as well it could be a stadium show.
I think the original plan was for Vitor vs Weidman to be on the 31st but my guess is Weidman doesn't want to go to Brazil due to the TRT issue. Would be cool if it is in Brazil though on the 31st and they add in Werdum vs Browne.
I wonder if the UFC truly have their ear to the ground in Brazil. In order to do well ticket wise they will need to bring over some top talent because the usual line up is becomming stale and starting to bore some fans. Take into account that there have been some lackluster matchups/bad decisions like Machida vs Davis, Maia vs Shields, Aldo vs KZ (the injury) last year its easy to imagine that fans will need to see something bigger and better this year. The big driving force for 2013 in Brazil was Vitor Belfort, he kept that market afloat and then some. If he is not around it will be difficult to push 7 brazilian cards with gret success.
If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much - I think the original plan was for Vitor vs Weidman to be on the 31st but my guess is Weidman doesn't want to go to Brazil due to the TRT issue. Would be cool if it is in Brazil though on the 31st and they add in Werdum vs Browne.
Dutch I believe there's more at play here... I agree that weidman is against it but I dont think Zuffa gives a shit about that. This is all about site fees. When Zuffa wants vegas to pay up they say the fight is happening in brazil... when they want brazil to pay up they say the fight is happening in vegas. Brazilian politicians got shit on when it came out that they paid zuffa 1m to host a UFC fight night. Chael vs Anderson 2 was supposed to be in brazil until vegas stepped up it's site fees. Im sure Zuffa would have no problem doing weidman vs vitor in brazil if they ponied up.
It may very well end up in vegas... but i doubt it will have anything to do with what weidman wants.
teamquestnorth - What didg vegas pay as a site fee for silva vs sonnen2? I thought they switched it because of a UN conference? Unless that was just an excuse.

the UFC will beat the dead horse for every dollar it can, then say "we're not mainstream here" instead of what you suggest

That makes sense and I am sure Brazil wants this fight more then Vegas. Let the two sites bid on it and whoever is willing to pay more, they get the card. I believe the site fees in Vegas is a lot more then $1,000,000.00 from last I heard. Not sure what the casinos get out of the site fee as far as a percentage of tickets, due you happen to know?
I know they get the traffic on the casino floor and rooms sold which is huge. Just wondering what else they get out of it.
I don't think they will get as large of a site fee for the arena because it's not connected to a casino but it's literally a few hundred yards from my place so it would be cool if it was there.
^ Casinos dont get anything from the tickets... they pay a site fee just to get the traffic for gaming, leisure, etc...
Pacman boxing fights were pulling around 10m dollar gates and they would get an additional 20m plus in site fees...UFC 168 pulled a 6m dollar gate... so yeah... Zuffa gets alot more than a million dollars for a card like 168 (likely around 8 to 10 million in addition to the 6m gate). but the million Zuffa got from brazil was just for a fight night in a smaller jurisdiction. Zuffa will expect alot more than a million from a major market like Rio or Sao Paulo.
Vegas almost always gets the fights because nobody else can compete for them. Vegas will pay a premium for cards that are hiigher priced (ufc 168 and even more for boxing) because that attracts the higher rollers.... a card like ufc 170 (rousy vs carmouche) probably gets Zuffa around 1.5m to 2m from the MGM in site fees in addition to the gate.
but as MMAHAWK stated above may 31st isnt memorial day weekend. Wand vs Chael could still just be a fight night and zuffa could still have a ppv on may 26th in vegas featuring Vitor vs Weidman.
As far as the AEG arena... yes. That arena is actually a disguised casino. There will be gaming all over the place throughout the arena.
