A question about Joe Riggs

Given that Riggs was a heavyweight at one point (I've read close to 260lbs), how was he able to drop all of that weight?
How long did it take him to do it?

Actually, I think Joe was over 300lbs at one point, although I could be wrong. I would assume he lost it by hard work and eating clean.

Wow, 300! Didn't he fight heavyweight and then welterweight in the same year?

Riggs used to be 300 lbs.

I don't think he was 300 in those pics though.

He was still quite hefty in them.  He is just lucky he did not get the Rico Rodriguez gunt.  Very impressive the way he transformed his body nonetheless.

To the nasked question-he does not belong in the ring with Jake Shields.

Well, he certainly wasn't diesel yet:)

I think his story is inspiring.

 True.

Four months is insane! I can't imagine how he'd do it. Even working out constantly and dieting, I can't see how it would be possible. Inspirational but also stunning.

Has he ever publicly spoken about his dramatic weight loss in-depth? It's mentioned during his fights from time to time, but I haven't heard anything more than that.

Stevia

 Beat me to it BMF.

Cold fission.

You may call me D - Meth is a hell of a drug.

i was gonna say coke, but that works too.

Campbells playa

I talked to him about this! He ate soup every day only. He did this for almost 8 months then started dieting better and kept working out

Not saying Joe did it, but HGH will also cause weight loss. I know someone at my gym who went from 285 to 230ish just using HGH and slight diet.

I forgot to put in the stevia disclaimer. Damn!

Soup?! That's seems a little hard to believe.

Either way, it's impressive he did it and even more impressive he kept it off.

I'm looking to lose some weight. Not as much as Riggs, but enough (50 lbs). I'm starting with cutting out the beer for at least a month and going from there. I was wondering if he used any supplements (the legal kind) like L-carnitine or something to help with his weight loss.

I also wonder if his relatively sudden drop in weight had any negative side effects.

Anyone have that picture of Riggs from before he started training (I think it's a yearbook photo), where he looks closer to 400 lbs. Maybe that's a stretch, but if he is near 300 in those photos above, then he had to be 50 to 80 lbs heavier in the school photo.

There was also a kid who I saw in some smaller show (maybe Bodog) who had lost over 100 lbs trying to get in fight shape. I think he lost though.
