If he's still champ after those six fights will he be "allowed" to retire?
The Champion's Clause (or Claws for all you frate trains) could strike again.
"He has spared with guys who take him down easily and school him and these guys are not even as good as Demian or Palhares"
LMAO. I keep reading shit like this and cant help but laugh. The sparring sessions mean absolutely fucking nothing. Anderson has proven himself where it counts.
Smart to leave while he's still healthy without any major injuries that we "know" of.
"I remember Larry Holmes defended his belt 20 times.... no comment"
Boxing is very different. In mma if you get complacent or dont keep improving, you get clipped. Theres so many ways to lose.
Going out Barry Sanders style. Most everyone remembers him as the best EVA!!!
Justinmacd - I think he just needs a rest.
Floyd Mayweather will clearly be back. The money is too tempting.
I don't think PBF will be back, he's beaten everyone who stands a chance against him. Sad day when Anderson retires.
This is what separates Fedor from Anderson.
Anderson is unreal and is on a crazy streak against top guys. However when Anderson was losing to Takase and Chonan, Fedor hadnt lost and still hasnt. I do also think that Anderson is seeing there is only so far he can go with UFC and even with Dana pushing him like fuck he will never be one of the BIG stars making the really big money. I think he really just wants to get through the contract then retire from MMA and try and get that big boxing match.
KHLARK KENT - If he's still champ after those six fights will he be "allowed" to retire?

Of course he can retire. There are no repercussions to calling it quits. It's if you try to take your services elsewhere when you get yourself in legal trouble.
"He has spared with guys who take him down easily and school him and these guys are not even as good as Demian or Palhares"
im sure he trains with many ppl that can hold their own and even get the better of him.
but the difference is in the fight, he becomes a completely different person. he becomes this fucking animal that is out to kill....
^well said..that is the definition for "Gamer"...Performs better when the lights are on and the cage is locked...
ProfJuba - Although I could watch Silva until he's 45 ....6 fights should last 2 years more or less. that's 10 years in the game. Let the man go out on top.
^^^ Yeah That ^^^
TTT
the great MARVIN HAGLER ... was the only fighter i know that went out and retired ..... and stayed gone !! i truly respect him for that ...( he had some fights left in the tank BUT that shitty , lying , cocain snorting , no good dad of a man , ray leonard ... was too chicken shit scared to give him a much deserved rematch ).... the fight was close , no matter who u were .
if spider can pull off the same feat .... huge props to spider
i hope he goes out with a string of wins
Anyone else suspect he may be setting this to posture himself for a bigger contract after the 6 fights?
I'm sure he could get a nice boxing contract afterwards. If he unretired, he'd likely come back with a nice contract too.
Really sucks someone has his accomplishments and they're not better off financially given how the sport has grown already.
the great MARVIN HAGLER ... was the only fighter i know that went out and retired ..... and stayed gone !!
Exactly the line of thought I had when I saw the article.
You can either go out like Marvin Hagler, be healthy, live the good life in Italy, or become a fat tub of goo like Roberto Duran and so many others who became sad, over the hill figures in the ring.
Its just too often the case with great fighters that sully their legacy (either due to finances or ego) by not recognizing that their best days are behind them. Skills fade but sometimes the desire doesn't and we see so many guys become a joke and/or take unnecessary beatings. If Anderson wants to go out on top and avoid that, more power to him.
i hate to see him broadcast his retirement like that ..... im kinda supersticious about that .... juges seem to call it the other way , if they know a fighter is gonna retire .... they and others go with the next meal ticket for their sport ..... ie ray leonard vs hagler
folks knew he was gonna retire , because he told the media that he was .....they figured ray would carry the sport ... they didnt need marvin no more , carrying hbo boxing !
benard hopkins gettin any close fights lately ???
Or maybe guys actually in his division like Mousasi, Akiyama, Misaki, Cung Le, Frank S, Lindland.. the winner of the upcoming Sengoku
too bad none are in the UFC
Justinmacd -EKPOGI - i hope he gets his rematch with okami before he retires
Or how about no?
How about we give him actual top opponents like Wand, Rashad, GSP, Forrest, etc.
Anderson deserves to go out with superfights. Not against guys like Cote and Okami.
I might cry
Today was starting off so good what with news of Lombardo and kazja being banned but this really rains on the parade
I'm thinking Anderson finishes up his UFC contract, fights Roy Jones JR then signs with Affliction or back with the UFC for a huge amount of money. At least I hope.
