Those last 6 fights will be amazing.

all good things must come to an end.

at least he will go out on top.

it will justify my prediction i made a year ago: anderson silva will remain champion until he chooses to retire.

epic.

Silva knows how hard it is to really elevate youself to such a high level of ability, to just be that much above everyone else, it is ridculously hard to stay at that level, it takes incredible determination and discipline. Not everyone cares if they are there for as long as they can, it's how good they while they're up there.

Guys like Sylvia, Hughes, GSP, Wand, Cro Cop, Fedor, are all guys who at one time were almost untouchable. Some lasted a long time, some didn't, but everyone will remember them as the greats they were because of the margin of the next closest competitor. At one time it wasn't even close with most of them. Like with Hughes it was GSP and with Wand it was Arona and Shogun. GSP is like that now. He is one guy who can probably stay in that all time greatest level for an incredible amount of time.

No doubt Silva could too, he just doesn't have to do that to be happy with his career. Smart move, imo. Life is alot more than just conquest and competition. Have some fun while you're here.

 noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

why would he retire this early in the game???

This early in the game?  His first fight was in May of 2000.  He's had 26 fights.  That's far from early inthe game, imho...

TTT for one of the all time greats!!!!

Well, which "bigger" WWs are now gonna move up to MW - and which "smaller" LHWs are gonna move down?

Who said you have to go to Calgary to witness a stampede?

rich franklin can came back down....damn i sure hate to see him go.

i hope he gets his rematch with okami before he retires

Sad news as a MMA fan. I wish him well after his retirement. I can't wait for the next 6 fights.

Although I could watch Silva until he's 45 ....6 fights should last 2 years more or less. that's 10 years in the game. Let the man go out on top.

The happy converse of never trusting a fighter who says he's retired is never worrying when a fighter says he's going to retire.

Nah all top athletes threaten retirement and unretire all the time.  Nothing to fear here.

It would be nice to see a fighter retire while he is on top and stay retired. I would hate to see Silva retire but it would be good for him and his legacy.

Hopefully the UFC can find 6 worthy opponents for him.

I was going to make this post, glad to see it on here. Guy is all class. I love his plans for retirement. LOL
