Pryor was truly "great", he's in the boxing hall of fame right??? I'd also like to verify if Hearns really did lose his first 14 fights...cool piece of random trivia there.
Well, Hearns' strengths would come out better in the pro game where power matters more. Amateur bouts are scored completely differently and do not necessarily predict how well a boxer will do in the pros.
Some amateurs basically play a game of tag and can't handle being tested with the headgear off and different scoring criteria. Hearns had sick power and bailed himself out of trouble many times with it.
I would go down to the virick gym in cocunut grove Miami everyday to see Aaron pryor get ready for the Arguello fight.Alexis was training at the time at tropical park. This was 81 I believe(boy am I old),it's hawk time,it's hawk time pryors trainers use to scream with very little fanfare, while arguello had a packed house full of the media blitz over at tropical park.
It's To bad that Aaron ended up partying heavy in liberty city after that fight.A Great fighter that just never got the respect he wanted from the media. He was always in search of the big megafight with hearns or leonard, similar to the one pretty boy floyd is Getting this saturday night.
