Allan Goes is another phenomenal black belt under Carlson Gracie. In a recent interview Sakuraba named Goes as one of his toughest opponents. Cool footage of him rolling with a purple belt in this video.

Nice.
Goes is one of the guys I've always thought deserved to be seen as a true mma pioneer. He definitely got screwed in a few early Pride fights. That being said: the midget wrestling at the start of this vid made me cringe. Start in guard or on the feet ffs.
what's his story?
whatever happened to him and where's he at now?
I think he was the best MMA guy from that gym.
I don't think MMA was a high priority after the mark Coleman fight.
Mike Wazowski - what's his story?
whatever happened to him and where's he at now?
Pretty much been training jiu-jitsu his entire life. Very dangerous on the mat. Basic, but efficient jiu-jitsu. Did exceptionally well against some tough opponents in MMA (e.g., Sakuraba, Frank Shamrock, Henderson). Suffered a pretty bad head injury when he competed against Coleman. That was back in the day when weight classes were not as common and you could knee a downed opponent. I think he was focused more on MMA by the time the Mundials started in 1996 which is why you don't hear his name more often in BJJ. I believe he's teaching in California right now and reuinted with the Carlson Gracie Team.
Highlights of his match against Stiebling back in 2001. Stiebling gets the win in the 3rd round. Huge props to Stiebling for surviving Goes' dangerous submission game. Goes is a GREAT representative of jiu-jitsu in MMA.
In his fight with Sakuraba Goes demonstrates an amazing MMA-style attacking guard. Sakuraba is....well Sakuraba...one of the best MMA fighters of all time.
Those knees from Coleman bummed me out, I was really pulling for Goes
Great fight with Sakuraba! Thanks man. Couldn't find any part 2 but excellent guard work from Goes. Was a fan of him back then.
I trained with alot of black belts over the years and I have to say Allan is something very special.
Bj penn used to bring Allan in to train and corner him for his fights mid career.
This is making me all Jiujitsu-nostalgic.....
I loved the old days when BJJ was about fighting.....
Went to one of his seminars. It was an awesome experience.
Goes vs. Chemically Inspired Coleman was just not right.
He's a badass, Carlson lineage. He's teaching out of Laguna Woods, Ca now.
Goes was a great guy
I train under Allan. Great to see him getting some love here.
