I've been asked to post a thread announcing the new Carlson Gracie Central Coast. We are located in Atascadero, CA at 3250 El Camino Real(main drag in town). The new owner is a forum member that will announce himself shortly. He is a Carlson Jr BB & a Sandan(3rd Dan) Judo BB & active competitor in both bjj & judo. We will also have, as an assistant coach, Ryan Halsey, former D1 wrestler & national level judo competitor and a Nidan(2nd) Judo BB.
The gym currently offers just over 1,000sq' of mat space & welcomes anyone passing through to stop in for a class or just an open mat roll.
It will be a little while until the new owner is able to relocate to the Central Coast permanently but will be splitting his time between us & his current obligations back east.
Our new instructor will update this thread shortly with his name & new phone number, updated website, etc... This initial post is just to get the word out that there will now be a Carlson gym on California's Central Coast just 2min off the 101 when passing through between NorCal & SoCal.

Thanks Shen. I think most everyone here knows the new owner and will be surprised to hear that he is the one who purchased the gym. Once he completes his current obligations back east & takes over the gym full time, it's going to be a great program.
Ryan Halsey is also a great asset. He won the PAC 10 while wrestling for Cal Poly & was an assistant coach for Cal State Bakersfield. He is currently an assistant coach for the Paso Robles wrestling team and will be feeding them into the gyms judo (and maybe bjj) program during the off season.
Should be a solid gym once again after everything gets up and going.

Ok. I've been informed that I needed to make an edit to above. The new owner has been active in Judo competition as of late but missed the deadline for the worlds(bjj) this last year. He won't consider himself active in bjj again until participating in one of the major bjj tournaments.

Congratulations Andre! You wouldn't remember me but we practiced techniques together in class once a few years ago. We were still blue belts at the time and it was when the headquarters was still at Fitplex on LaSalle/Division. Good luck with the new gym.
