Arlovski's UFC Run Is Over

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski lost an absolutely dreadful split decision last night (Sat., June 29, 2024) to Martin Buday from inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. There are literally zero highlights to show, so don’t go looking.
The loss to Buday was Arlovski’s fourth in a row, and now he is on his fourth four-fight losing streak of his 60-fight career.

“Pitbull” was one of four older UFC veterans (Cub Swanson , Anthony Smith , Michelle Waterson) on UFC 303. UFC CEO Dana White was asked about Arlovski’s loss during the UFC 303 post-fight press conference (watch here).

“Yeah, this is Andre’s last fight,” White told the media. “I don’t know what Cub’s going to do. You know, obviously, Smith is already part of the team here and working here. I don’t know. We’ll see how it all plays out, but you know, all people that we truly respect and care about, so we’ll see what happens.”
White received some criticism for announcing Arlovski’s retirement or release because the long-time UFC veteran did not receive a retirement package like Waterson did (watch it).
Nevertheless, Arlovski fought 42 times inside the promotion on two different stints, capturing the UFC Heavyweight title in his first go around. He ends his legendary UFC run with a 23-18-1 record.

While he has not been fun to watch over the last several years, he did have one of the best one-round fights of all time with Travis Browne, so there is that.

That’s a shame. That guy’s been around forever and has done some pretty great things.

Bring back JDS to replace him in that role now. He has a couple wins in a row.

Hopefully they bring him back and give him the send off he deserves.

For you older fans to appreciate……he lost his first fight, in 1999.

Against Datsik.

25 years of cage fighting.

Remarkable.

That was a very rough start aswell.

To keep going all those years coming off such a brutal start makes his career even more impressive.

I have not had interest in watching Arlovski compete in the UFC for a while now but that is not the point.

Why did they worship Waterson with a special video and Rogan was in there getting choked up and all.

Waterson had a good career and all but what makes her so much more special than Arlovski?

I’d argue he has been a more significant figure than her in MMA.

The Big Business era of MMA is weird.

Pretty sad that a former champ’s last fight was during the prelims in a mostly empty arena.

At least they didn’t feed him to everyone in the top five and then cut him like they did with JDS.

If Andre got treated like JDS he would have been gone well over a decade ago.

Matchmakers dictate a lot of a UFC career.

UFC cut JDS after 9 losses and the last few were to Ngannou, Blaydes, Rozenstruik and Gane.

UFC cut Arlovski after 18 losses.

Andre got an incredible amount of hype around the time of TUF 1 with the influx of new fans.

Is always depressing when you see someone go from main eventing ppv’s to not even making the televised prelims.
