Askren Thinks Jones has Dirt on Dana

Ben Askren feels there may be something behind the scenes when it comes to Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic.

Many MMA fans have expressed dismay over UFC CEO Dana White sticking to his guns on booking Jones vs. Miocic for the heavyweight title. This is because Tom Aspinall is the current interim UFC Heavyweight Champion, and fans believe he’s the more exciting fight for “Bones.”
Not only has White doubled down on the matchup, but he’s been adamant about Jon Jones deserving the top pound-for-pound spot despite his inactivity.

Ben Askren Feels Jon Jones Has Info on Dana White

During an episode of “Funky & The Champ,” Ben Askren shared his belief that Jon Jones may have something on Dana White given how lenient he’s been on not booking the Tom Aspinall fight (h/t MMAFighting.com).

“I almost feel like maybe Jon’s got some dirt on Dana or something, because Dana generally would not put up with this type of behavior,” Askren said on Funky & The Champ with Daniel Cormier. “He would say, and this is what the UFC is founded on where boxing [wasn’t], is, ‘We want the best guys to fight. We want to see who the actual best guy is. We don’t want to waste time with shenanigans, we won’t want to pad records to go to 40-0, we don’t do that, that’s what boxing does. In the UFC, we put the best guys in there and see who wins.’

“So the fact that Jon is being — I don’t want to say, [I don’t know] if allowed is the right term, but Dana’s playing along, and letting him and Stipe fight. Stipe is going to be close to four years [since his last fight] by the time they ever fight. … You have this young interim champion, he’s a beast, just smashes people, and the fact that they won’t put them in there together — and then there’s this good [chance] that Jon beats Stipe and then says, ‘I’m done, I’m gone.’ And then you never get to see [Jones vs. Aspinall].”

White has said that having Aspinall as a backup for the Jones vs. Miocic fight sounds like a good idea. Tom remains adamant about feeling he should simply replace Miocic given that Stipe hasn’t fought since 2021 and it was a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou.

Dana is clinging to Jones as one of the few draws because he sucks at building new stars as the promoter. He wants as many more PPVs from him as he can get.

JON JONES IS THE GOAT AND A BIG STAR

He isn’t the bellator wrestling champ who got bingoed with a flying knee.

Stipe and Jones agreed in early July 2023 to fight at UFC 295 in November. Later that same July, Aspinall bounces back after a loss by injury against Curtis Blaydes a year prior. Jones announces his own injury in October 2023 and the UFC 295 fight is postponed. Aspinall had a win in November at UFC 295 and a win against Curtis Blaydes again at UFC 304.

Stipe versus Jones was booked before Aspinall’s 3-fight win streak. What’s Dana supposed to do? Tell Stipe sorry about fight camp expenses but you’re getting no more fights? Good luck in retirement and sincerely hope this doesn’t hurt your financial situation? It’s not like Stipe has injured himself or called off the fight and Jones turned down the replacement fighter Tom Aspinall.

UFC would go broke if Askren was running it. Dummy

Has he even been paying attention the past few years?? Meanwhile, Izzy is fighting for a title this weekend coming off a dominant loss. Does Izzy have dirt on Dana too? Derp

This right here. All the emotional dummies can’t grasp this. Nobody is ducking Bob Aspinalt lol

Gotta be Ben Askren coping with his 1-2 record 10-minute UFC career telling himself he fought the best of the best. By his logic, Jones shouldn’t fight Stipe because Stipe’s been on a 3.5 year hiatus, but Aspinall that’s had 9 fights since 2020 should fight the Jon Jones that in 4.5 years has had one fight and it lasted 2-3 minutes.

Yes but that doesn’t make sense. If JBJ beats Stipe and retires then the question of what does Tom vs JBJ look like?

If Tom beats JBJ it skyrockets him

If JBJ beats Tom that cements him as GOAT.

Jon doesn’t need Tom for a thing, Tom needs Jon. That’s why he sounds desperate with his nonsense lately. Jon’s legacy is cemented. Beating Stipe at this point means more historically than beating Aspinall. Anyone with a shred of sense knows that.

Im speaking from the UFCs stand point, not from a fighters view. Isn’t that what this thread is mostly about…JBJ having dirt on Dana giving Bones the fight he wants vs the fight that should be happening (which is the entire problem with this sport, but thats a thread in itself)

If Jones were doing that, I think we’d seen him fight Andrei Arlovski instead of Ciryl Gane in his first heavyweight fight.

Yeah its possible. But Gane is a solid first choice

Askren, the new Chael eh?

From the UFC POV, they want a Jones fight because it will sell PPVs.

If they want that, it’s really Stipe or nothing as Jones has pretty much been consistent for the last few years that he wants Stipe and no one else (and that he will retire after).

Meanwhile Dana is being super accommodating and stroking Jones’ ego because he still holds out hope that Jones might stick around after Stipe. Making demands and accusing him of ducking Aspinall would do no good in this situation.
