To set the record straight, muslims not being allowed to touch a member from the opposite gender (unless they are married) is not because they feel they are superior to them, its because its a commandment from God (as muslims believe). This is out of respect, in a society where strip clubs, prostitution, promiscuity is prevalent, its not surprising that this may appear odd.
As fellow brothers and sister in humanity we might not all agree on certain views or religious ideologies, but when someone just outright bashes and and dehumanizes another faith, in my opinion they are not much different than terrorist, whether they are muslim, christian,jewish, etc. This harmful attitude just stirs the pot and increase hatred and bigotry which leads to the problems our world faces today.

One of the owners and best grapplers at our school refuses to roll with women. Since I have started bjj he and his wife and family and I have become good friends. They are devout Christians. His wife would not care if he rolled with women and he would not care if she rolled with guys. It is simply a way he chooses to show respect to his wife and his marriage.
We have a womens class and some women refuse to come to the main class but then some women love the main class. Those that do actually have stated that they feel short changed to an extent because they are denied a very good source of learning. Still the woman and the guy are friends even through this fundamental disagreement.
I personally refuse to roll with select people. For any of various reasons. Spazzy. Hygiene. Just not in the mood.
In the end, on the mat, reasons do not matter. Religion does not matter, racism, sexism, any ism you want to name doea not matter on the mat. Until and unless that ism is brought onto the mat by that individual to harm another individual.
Respect anothers desire to roll with or not with whomsoever they desire. Leave your prejudices and hatreds outside the gym.

The OMM stated that he won't train with women or homosexuals.... at which time I asked him ..."how about women homosexuals??" no response from him....my follow up question...
"how would you know if your training partner was gay? He said..."oh I'll know!"
After 3-or 4 awkward classes I took him aside and informed him that over half of the people he worked out with during the week were gay!! Needdless to say ...he never came back.

If any male doesn't want to train with women and he's respectful about it, that's completely his choice and opinion! We only want to train with people who want to train with us anyway, otherwise the rolling session will suck. I pick and chose my training partners, they have a right as well.

I would just like to point out that the person to whom the question was asked has answered.
I have been in schools where a Christian man wouldn't train with me. His wife was also not allowed to train with any men. I have also trained with a Muslim man, and had a Muslim man refuse to roll with me. I have no problem with any of this, so long as I am not the one that has to sit out because of their limitations.
If someone has to sit out because they have this rule, it needs to be them. That's all I would ask. I don't care if they want to limit their training. Like Hillary said, there are people I prefer not to train with, too. If my choice is to train with one of those guys or sit out, I sit out. It's only fair.

My students don't change the way I run my class and they aren't oppressing anyone, they just choose not to touch the women. They still acknowledge them as part of the team and talk to them as such, so what's the big deal.
