CanadaGirl - Hello, I have been training for 3 years and there is one guy at my gym who cannot train with women for religious reasons. I have absolutely no issue with this and I don't see why anyone would.
Because most Americans are stupid.

I didn't say that at all but seriously.....you have to respect peoples moral, religious, and personal boundaries.....
CanadaGirl, I agree with you, UNTIL those boundaries impact my ability to train. If it comes down to his religious rules meaning that he doesn't get to roll or I don't get to roll, he sits out every time, in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying but I choose not to roll with certain people in class sometimes, just because I don't like rolling with them. They spaz, they smell, etc. Sometimes, this means we both sit out a round. I think that if someone doesn't want to roll with me due to religious reasons, it's just as valid as me not wanting to roll with the guy in the stinky gi. Even if it means we both sit.
I really don't understand the difference. If you don't want to roll with some one because they are a spaz or they smell bad, or in a lot of cases because you are tired or just don't want to get beaten, you are exercising your right to protecting your body.
I pick and choose who I roll with on a regular basis depending on what kind of training mood I am in. Sometimes I train with just the lower belts to protect my body or to work on technique. Sometimes I train with just the upper belts because I am feeling selfish and want more of a workout.
Everyone has one or two people they prefer to train with stylistically, so if you roll with that person more than anyone else are you hurting the rest of the team? Picking and choosing training partners is something that everyone does every time they get on the mat.
If one person wasn't there in the first place you wouldn't be rolling with them anyway. There are lots of people that train and never roll with anyone or only have the gas to roll once or twice, are they bad people too?
Jiu Jitsu people don't always show up, and they don't always train hard when they do. It's just the nature of the beast. In my eyes that is no different than making a religious decision not to train with someone. It doesn't do any good to get upset by it because you aren't going to change it. Just focus on yourself and your own training and you will be much happier for it.
all religion is a bunch of mumbo jumbo
I would respect anyone's wish not to train with anyone, for what ever reason they have. It's their business and, silly for me to get angry about. If they aren't hurting someone else, concentrate on your own training and, help others.

Defenestrator. You are the one everyone thinks is an idiot. The only bigger one on rhis thread is Exmobile.
Only a moron starts an argument by calling people dumb cunts, then turns around and in the midst of "slinging around random gobshite insults and related lexicographic diarrhea because they are unable to seperate their viewpoints from their child-like emotions." Performs the exact thong he accuses others of doing.
So go ahead. Keep showing how "intelligent" you are. It's like watching a mentally challenged person try to put a puzzle together.
This thread needs to be deleted.
^Or go through and edit all the posts to more accurately reflect the attitude of genuine BJJers, which is that we totally understand if there is a reason you can't roll with ANYONE in class. As long as it's not based on bigotry then no one will mind,
Defenestrator, take a comparative religion class or something. Your facts on Islam are half wrong and half out of context.
Oh and read a couple threads on the Atama board and take note of the tone. People are actually respectful of one another on here usually. Culture shock, I know.
You got training preferences then don't train. It messes up everyone else with trying to find the "right" partner for the idiot. Training is training with everyone. They should just get the mind out of the gutter.
