Average female UFC fighter makes a WNBA salary

Median salaries in the WNBA are around $71,635, and starting salaries are $50,000

Say a female fighter was on a 15/15 scale and they fight 3 times, winning 2. That'd be $75,000 before sponsor pay, throw another $12,000 or so. $87,000 without any sponsorship $$ from outside the octagon or a part time-job. If a fighter scrapes together $15,000 more they're over $100,000.

The top female fighters such as Roxanne would earn well over $200,000 under the scenario above.

Here are some boxing purses for comparison.

WNBA health benefits?

Consequently, they could only fight once or twice in a year due to injuries or fighters pulling out - lose and only make 15 - 30k, minus trainer fees - they’d be left with less than a McDonalds employee.

One win for a UFC fighter making $50,000/$50,000 and they're at or above the WNBA max salary. Not to mention superior exposure and promotion.

Maybe UFC should offer a larger female division like 165 lbs. instead of 145.

Do WNBA players have to pay a large percentage of their salary towards training?

Do female fighters?

Nobody has to do anything.

Some have trainers outside of the team that helps them.

not outside the UFC.

When did you drop the “tard “ part of your name? It was the most decriptive part.

The operative words are “some” and “help”. It’s hardly their primary training. The team pays for that. Equipment, trainers, therapists, travel all paid for by the team. Fighters have to bear all of those costs out of their pay. It’s hardly fair comparison.

I know everyone loves Roxanne, but to call her a top fighter is a stretch.

 her record agrees

They get paid more by median than the quality of the product they bring gives.

Rose, Joanna, Gadelha, Shevchenko, Holm, Cyborg, Zingano & Nunes are the only women on the roster who have done anything to show they’re worth PPV spots.

I’m a huge supporter of women’s MMA, and there being so much of it on UFC shows is damaging both women’s MMA and the UFC badly.

They need to start a WUFC and show the cards on a free network to let it grow and let the quality in the pool develop.

No one goes and pays top prices at a restaurant to have an amateur chef make them a sandwich. And no one is paying for this substandard level of MMA where finishes aren’t ever likely to happen, as the figures continue to show

I’m going to start a Mr. America beauty pageant (not body building) and dedicate my life to it. When it flops I can blame gender inequality.

that or I can just accept the fact that nobody gives a shit and demand drives viewership and value. People want to see beautiful women in that world, not a dude.

same can be said here, people want to see monsters slam dunk or fight each other, not substitute teachers “fight” each other to a decision

Go train at UFC institute where it’s all free including food

Unfair comparison. WNBA players have a guaranteed salary. The entire roster could come down with walking meningitis and they and their opponents would still get paid. A female MMA fighter getting hurt and having to drop out of a fight could spell disaster for her and her team. And even her opponent.

MMA is a different ballgame. Difficult to plan financially when you'e not even sure if in the next 6 months, you'll have one, two or zero fights.
