Pat Barry lost to Shawn Jordan via strikes at UFC 161 Saturday night. However, his manager Brian Butler, of SuckerPunch Entertainment, says the bout ending strike was an accidental eye poke.

"The eye poke is what stopped Pat. He was not dazed or even close to being unconscious," Butler told Bleacher Report on Monday. "Watch the way he just turtles up to cover his eye. If it was more blatant, the ref would have given Pat time to recover, but it was hard to see.

"You can see Pat actually almost tap to motion the ref it was his eye, but Shawn was hitting so fast he couldn't remove his glove from his eye."

"This was set to be a great fight, and what most people didn't see was that this stoppage was due to an eye gouge Pat received from an uppercut. The strikes themselves did not cause Pat to go down. He took a thumb directly into his eyeball and turtles up to protect it. Unfortunately, the ref did not have the angle I saw it, and the fight was stopped."

Butler said he had not yet determined whether he would file an appeal with the regulating commission in Winnipeg.

i honestly think barry pulled a kyle/eilers and gave his bro the win

I actually thought this might have been the case because Pat popped up so fast.

I'd have to see a GIF though because it may have been a punch to the eye which AFAIK isn't illegal if his fist is closed.

his reaction was pretty odd

To be clear, I'm not proposing that what I'm about to say happened, but I always thought that if you have guys that are friends but not getting paid a ton of money, why not make an agreement over any bonus money if one wins it?

Shit, if I'm fighting a good friend, it'll make it much easier to unleash hell on his face and vice versa if we are both in agreement that we are going to put on a great show and beat the shit out of eachother hoping for Fight and/or KO/Sub OTN.

Again, I'm in no way saying this happened, nor do I think it ever has. Also, it's not fixing the fight, just a way for both parties to make more money if they both decide to go balls to the wall and swing for the fences instead of playing it safe.

Make sense? I hope everybody understands. Phone Post

There is a difference between a punch going in the eye and an eye gauge or poke. I think he just got punched in the eye. Fair game. Phone Post

I thought it was an eye poke but then i watched the replays and it was close fist the entire time.

no eye poke, prolly just got the knuckle to the eye.

In for gif for confirmation Phone Post 3.0

gif it up

Looked to me like he got uppercutted right in the eye. He seemed to react similar to Vera against Jones in my opinion - I thought he had broke his orbital bone or something Phone Post

Look like a legal strike that caught him in the eye. Perhaps a seam or a thumb caught the eyeball or something but I don't see anything illegal there.

it was a punch to the eye which is legal

Truth. Why is it that every time a fighter loses there has to be some excuse?

I dont think he's making an excuse, just giving a reason as to why he got stopped in a minute from a shot that didnt exactly look monsterous.

That said no way to tell from thw view the camera had, looks like a punch to the eye. Phone Post

Looks like closed fist to me, but thumb could still have poked. All I know is Pats head snapped back each strike.... those punches landed.

Look at barry’s reaction though, it really does look like he’s protecting that eye instead of his entire face…idk, I was watching that fight and I felt like there was something odd about his reaction, I thought he threw the fight bc he didn’t wanna beat up on a friend. This explination makes way more sense though Phone Post

But still, legit ko. I probably wouldn’t overturn it Phone Post

I'm a huge fan of Pat but I think he was hit with a legal punch to the eye. Phone Post

Legal? Even when the thumb goes in the eye socket? Well then tell me what an "eye gouge" is? Must be "a poke with any digit other than the thumb."

I say rematch! :P Phone Post 3.0

It was obviously an eye injury.

It was easy to see in real time. But despite looking at the replay over and over they didn't notice that Pat folded because his eye was fucked. They just assumed it was a knock out.

Just an eye injury.

No bad intentions from his opponent obviously so just a shitty deal for Pat.
