Bellator wants to book first father/son fight card

Not against each other, against different opponents...

Bellator is hoping to book AJ McKee’s father Antonio on the same Sept. 28 card his son is fighting on at The Forum in LA, as first reported by the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Antonio McKee is 49 years old and has not fought in five years. He still needs medical clearance from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) before he can be officially booked at Bellator 228. If it goes down, it is believed that it’ll be the first time a father and son have fought on the same MMA card in the United States.

All righty then. It won't be a first, not even in the U.S.

Antonio Mckee was pretty dominant in his time, but if people gave Ben Askeren a hard time for not being exciting, they are in for a real ambien moment with Antonio.  I respect his skills, but he is very much a dominant, top game control wrestler type.

AJ seems to be a little more dynamic, but not drastically.

Cole Miller and his Dad Tim Miller did it in 2004 in Georgia

Not as interesting as a father and son combo beating the same world class fighter!  Ray Cooper beat a young Jake Shields and his son knocked him out twice years later.  I hope Jake keeps fighting son he can lose to 3 generations of Coopers

I just don't think it is a good idea to have a father/son, brother/brother, bf/gf on the same card.  Too much shit can get in your head whee you see your son get his face caved in and then walk out onto the mat standing in your brothers blood.

Marketing angle. Antonio should just let his son stunt in the spotlight, he's a much better fighter than he was and that's not a diss. I do like the second generation Ken Griffey Sr/Ken Griffey Jr or Floyd Mayweather Sr/Jr potential. Chris Brennan's son Lucas won his pro debut in Bellator last week.

I'm pretty sure all of these scenarios have happened in pre-sanctioning days in Indiana. I've seen identical twin brothers fight each other. That was some confusing shit

Happened in Michigan years ago .. except the father and son fought each other in the sons promotion lol

Cal Worsham and his son fought on the same card.

Ridiculous claim. Everytime a Gracie steps into the ring/cage, he fights alongside at least three generations of Gracie spirit.

Truth. There’s an entire history of “modern” MMA with no record. Imagine what’s happened out there for human history.

Nobody that's 49 should be allowed to fight in a cage against Bellator caliber fighters.

Didn't Bellator already do this recently with the Israeli father and son? The dad had all those comic book tats.

Former TUF contestant Cody bollinger and his dad had title fights and both won at gladiator challenge a few years ago in California.  Plus, several other examples listed.  No way it's the first time.

Much respect for the whole mckee family though.
