Can anyone recommend some really good knee supports for judo that they have had good success with.
I am not sure what you are asking, but, try wrestling knee pads.
Asking for any recommendations for a really good knee brace/support that someone has used and liked in Judo training. That will help with knee pains when doing the sport of Judo.
IF you can wear them just get a really tight neoprene wrap. Likely a 6mm would be best as they offer a little more support.
The guys who have been judo for 30+ years wear the hinged carboon composite knee braces for about $400-$500/brace. The old design had metal and really hurt when you did newaza with them. Or they tied to sweep you.

I have one. You can't wear them for judo beyond very specific uchikomi and a little newaza - the braces outline your knee with carbon composite armor(metal hinges still used as of 2005) - carbon fiber is light but still very hard and even with a neoprene sleeve designed for it, it could still hurt people.
Plus, several studies have shown they don't really help that much.
Go neoprene or if you're old school, an inner tube from bicycle tires, valve removed.

Knee just feels week at points when I turn my back for a throw or run up a hill. Changed car to a auto which has helped as I had a crv with a heavy clutch.
Pains of ageing !
ochimata, yes they still hurt and can only be worn only in practice. Some have bone on bone where the cartilage has worn out in their knees, others to protect an old injury. Your recommendations are right on with the neoprene.

Definitely for practice only - mine was for my support leg so I did a lot of osoto gari uchikomi and then worked from the guard a lot when drilling newaza. I didnt randori at all with it.
Switched to neoprene for a bit and then eventually got rid of that, too.
