I have never heard of any "sandbanging" in the GI. We have kids, teens, adults, and masters. We allow masters to compete in both masters and adult. At one time the tournament did not have different no-gi levels, so there was a difference in skill levels for people in different grappling arts.

My Troll Account - I don't know if there is any truth to this or not but I heard some people avoid this tournament because there is more sandbagging than usual. is that true?
It's not sandbagging per se, but the Midwest is different than the west coast or the east coast in a way that we have a large number of tough wrestlers and ex-wrestlers and a relatively little number of black belts who could graduate them to blue, purple etc. This results in white belt divisions with quite a range in skill level.
I competed in the BoTB once, and my opponent was NOT white belt level...
