Bigger ADCC Surprise: Bravo 2003 or Jones 2017?

Just for fun, what was a bigger surprise performance?  Eddie beating Gustavo Dantas and Royler in one day, or Craig Jones defeating Murilo Santna and Leandro Lo?

I'd say Marcelo fucking up his division our of nowhere was the biggest surprise in ADCC history.

Eddie doing as well as he did, including triangling Royler is the 2nd.

Yes, I would agree with this precisely

If we're not considering just the two op mentioned then mg for sure

Especially since Marcelo was an alternate.

Between Eddie and Craig?

I think I may have tp say Eddie Bravo was the bigger surprise. A brown belt sinking an RNC on Gustavo and then triangling Royler was a huge deal. And this was right after Royler had an ADCC threepeat.

Leandro Lo comparitively speaking is not as accomplished as Royler was when it comes to no-gi. Royler was just such a dominant no-gi competitor at that point.

It's a close call. I would not argue much with anyone that said Craig's upsets were a bigger surprise. I had seen him do good at EBI but I never would have predicted what he did.

Yeah... I was considering only Eddie and Jones.

I was there in 2003 and remember feeling sorry for Marcelo when he was about to fight Shaolin...LOL

To say I was surprised after that is an understatement.

Reminded me of seeing Jon Jones' early fights, and getting the feeling that this kid was going to be special.

marcelo coming on to the scene was amazing.

but eddie still might have him beat. mostly because he submitted royler who at the time was a BJJ comp legend. it was like rickson lost but not only did he lose he got choked the F out.

the shit talking that ensued afterward was great too.
