“The thing is, Kenny is a hard guy to fight because he is always running away. I mean, even if I just went like this [extends fingers] he would run like ten feet back,” Penn said during the exclusive interview.
“So you can never really fight with Kenny, he is not the kind of guy who wants to get in there and mix it up. He likes to stay on the outside and maybe hit you one time and then run away. Even if you block it.. he just wants it to look like he is doing something, staying busy. But really he is not fighting.
“That is kind of what made the fight take a little longer. Even when sometimes I would let him grab me so I could hit him… You saw how [Alessio] Sakara was moving around on Thales [Leites] when they were fighting and he couldn’t get a good punch? That was like Kenny’s gameplan.”
The lightweight champion, who's personal website can be found at BJPenn.com, added, “You have to respect him and know that he is a serious fighter, but I never really got wobbled or anything.”
“When we hit the ground it just felt like when we trained before. I mean, he is good, but you can get positions on him and stuff. It felt like when we grappled years ago,” he revealed
BJ pwnd Kenflo it was fun to watch.
There is a happy medium.
BJ penn is there.
Always exciting to see fight, not a stupid stand in the pocket and trade brawler.
EvilEye - This is the Sidyotong strategy apparently. Marcus Davis used to be an exciting brawler.
Seems that way

has their strategy worked for anyone?
I mean kenny is better than when he was on tuf but he is not top 5.
I'm not putting them down, I'm really asking.
I WANT KENNYS HAT!!
ChokeEmOut - BJ would be correct on his assumptions. lol

It helped Cote and Kenny work their way to title shots past fighters that they were not expected to beat. It helped both of them beat TUF winners (Kendell and Joe Daddy). It helped Kenny run through both Joe Daddy and Joe Lauzon, who is highly regarded on this board. It helped Cote beat Ricardo Almeida, a King of Pancrase. It helped Marcus Davis go from a one-dimensional striker who got worked on TUF2 into a solid 170lb fighter.
Mark and the other trainers at Sityodtong are great. There is a reason that people like Randy Couture speak so well of him. A year or so ago, Sityodtong fighters had a long undefeated streak in MMA, so it's funny to hear people on here talk like this after a few losses.
And LOL at Kenny not being top 5 in the UFC after beating Lauzon, Huerta and Stevenson.

Weird. I wonder how Kenny managed to choke out Joe Daddy and beat down Joe Lauzon if he doesn't want to get in there and mix it up. The guy is 11-4 and stopped his opponent in 10 of those wins.
it worked very well vs huerta. i honestly thought it would work somewhat vs bj, although i didnt pick ken to win, i did expect it to be closer

BJ himself talked about pacing himself, specifically not going for the td unless it was really there so as to not blow his wad. How different is that and sticking and moving?
I realize fighters have to say stuff to keep us tuned in but BJ is really good at putting himself into douche aura.

Not against BJ apparently.
