BJJTapes.com questions

Hello all,

I was trying to find some information regarding anyone else's experience with bjjtapes.com. I figured that this was the best forum to do so. I have not placed an order with them and based on a question I asked them and their response I'm not sure I want to.

Here's what I asked them and then their response:
"Just how much cross-over (repeat footage) is there between the "Best Moves of Mundial 2003" and "2003 Mundials BJJ WC" DVDs?

A direct extension from that... what, if any, is the cross-over between the "Best Techniques of the 2002 BJJ WC" and "Finals of the 2002 Mundials BJJ WC" tapes?

I also saw that the Best Techs. of the 2002 BJJ WC is currently out of stock. Will there be more made or has it gone totally out of print?

And lastly, as a follow-up to all those questions, do you have or will you make available any other BJJ WC tournaments (1996 - 2001?).

I believe you may have previously offered some tapes of those events in the past. Any plans to re-issue them in full, on DVD, or in their previous incarnations?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide, (my name)"

Their response:

"(My Name):

No, to all of your questions."

Are they always so curt when responding or did I just catch them on a bad day?

No doesn't even answer all of my questions anyway...
"I also saw that the Best Techs. of the 2002 BJJ WC is currently out of stock. Will there be more made or has it gone totally out of print?" So the answer is no there won't be anymore made and no it isn't totally out of print. Interesting if true.

If anyone here has had good dealings with them in the past I'd like to hear about them, as well as any bad, and if you know of any other place I can order the same footage OR the footage that is out of print please let me know.

Thank you for your, hopefully, polite response, :)

Great service from the company. I hear it is a one man operation, so I would prob get tired of people playing 50 QUESTIONS with me too. I don't think his response is rude at all.

He didn't even have to reply, so it seems pretty lame that you are going to post his reply and read into it like he has bad customer service.

BTW - I think a simple NO answer is much better than "fuck off quit wasting my time!" That would seem to be something worth complaining about.

i do not know if bjjtapes is a one man operation, but i can tell you a lot of people write "companies" like mine and ask bullshit questions (and never order anything).

if you ordered something and have not received it or something like this....that is completely different.

in short, i completely agree with frenchfries...

I have never had a problem ordering from bjjtapes, he gave you an honest answer you didn't have to like the answer but it's honest. If you are looking for tournament dvds there's no better place period.

I had no problem when I ordered Pe De Pano's dvd's. They shipped quickly and I was extremely impressed with the quality.

Very good customer service!!!

I email companies all the time before purchasing, It helps me make my
decision on what to purchase. I have gotten helpful replies from all.

I dont always order from every company that answers a question
example, is it a full menu dvd, you have it on vhs is it coming out on
DVD, how long is the tape etc..

If i get the wrong answer I dont buy it, if I get no answer I dont buy it.
That said I have not purchased from bjjtapes before Im interested in
the Jacare set.

if you dont like bjjtape's service...you can always order the set from Budovides.com...they have great service aswell...Ive never had any probs.

It's kind of funny how a few words can make a big difference. If
they had even given you a brief answer to the other question that
went untouched, and signed off with something like "thanks for
checking us out, hope you're training is going well," you would
have a much different feeling about their company.

never had a problem with BJJTapes.com great service!!

Thats terrible customer service right there.

I dont care if its a one man operation and he gets a 100 questions like that an hour, if i got a reply like that i wouldnt buy a DVD from them ever.

How coincidental that I have the Jacare set coming out, and I get this question out of left field.

I gave this gentleman a quick answer and now he bashes me on the forum. This smells rotten and I hope all the forum members see this crap for what it is.

Oh, by the way

JACARE PRE-SALE IS OUT!!!!!!! GET THE BEST DVD ON THE PLANET PRODUCED FROM A GUY WHO ACTUALLY TRAINS!!!!

This guy has been a member for about 5 years and he has 22 posts? Something is rotten in denmark.

I didn't want to stir up any trouble at all. I'm sorry if my post count, or lack thereof, takes away from the legitimacy of my question. I understand this sub-board and others get trolled quite frequently so let me try to assure everyone this is not the case here.

I placed in order with BudoVideos (great customer service) and two of the items I picked up were the "Best of Grappling Magazine 2001 and 2002" books. In the 2001 edition (I'm going from memory here) they had an article on the 2001 Mundials and give a paragraph or two on some of the previous World Championships. That got me curious to see how much, if any, footage was available for purchase on the internet.

The first place I checked was onthemat.com and then budovideos, sherdog etc. OTM had some tapes for sale in the clearance section so I picked up some of the Mundial footage they had/have (1996, 1997, and 1998 along with some other clearance tapes) for about a $100 bucks. I sent them an email through a form on their website (which incidently I haven't received a response from) asking pretty much the same questions I posed to bjjtapes.com with the notible difference being I asked about some tapes/footage/events that OTM used to carry (according to a Google search) and wanting to know more about the 3 DVD & subscription deal.

On of the other events I asked about was a 2000-ish Pan-Am event in the US with Matt Serra vs Naoya Uematsu and many more. I don't remember the other matches or the exact name of the event but that's what I asked about. My Google search said they sold a two tape set of that event at one point.

In the meantime I did receive my onthemat.com order so thank you to those guys. I would recommend them as well.

I searched further and found, or rather re-found, bjjtapes.com. I think they may have previously sold some official Mecca VT tapes before because I remember visiting a previous version of the site and seeing them there. I looked through what was available and then asked my questions. I received a response very quickly but thought the answer was a bit "short" so I wanted to come on here and hear some feedback, good or bad, to determine if I still wanted to place an order there.

A couple of responses here have said nice things about bjjtapes.com and that alleviates the doubt I had about placing an order until these latest posts.

I had a legitimate question and concern about giving my debit card numbers over to someone, or some site, I wasn't sure about. I wanted to buy some BJJ and submission grappling footage based on some little recaps I read on them. I wanted to find out more about how they might be available and where from. That is the only reason I came on here to ask.

I was also going to ask about onthemat.com's 3 DVD special & subscription plan to see how other people's experience has gone with them and what DVDs they've been sent on the different plans (Gi, no-Gi etc.) I guess I shouldn't ask that because I don't post often enough?

I'll accept any criticism for posting the email but I did so because I guessed that one of the first questions I'd be asked was "what did you say and what was the response".

The only thing rotten here has been some of the responses. I have never "bashed" anyone on this forum and I did not "bash" anyone on this forum in my post. The last two times I posted were in the judo forum (what kind of mats to buy and where) and the strength training forum (about "Dial-Up" free weights). That's because I am moving soon and expect to have enough room for a little grappling/work-out area.

There was a thread on the main board/page a month or so ago about posters like myself who spend most of their time lurking instead of posting. I chose not to post in that thread because I had nothing really to say or add. I enjoy reading forums more than I enjoy posting on them. Judging from some, and only some, of the responses I think people can understand why.

And finally since every person who has posted thus far who has placed an order (or more) with bjjtapes.com has said nothing but good things about them I can only conclude that they do have good products & fast shipping. If you are looking for the same footage I was, based on those comments, I'd say place an order now to beat the holiday shipping rush. However, based on the email response and their/his comment on this thread I will never be a customer. I think that's a fair thing to say and not bashing at all.

Suplex,

The one time that I emailed them a question I received a very short one word answer as well. I guess that is their way of answering questions, so go figure.

Well, I see that you are not the typical customer from your post and require a different response. I never had anyone ask those type of questions in the years I have been in business.

My apologies if you were offended, but I thought you were a troll.

There is little or no crossover between each DVD. I went a little overboard on separating the DVD's, and kept as one with the 2004 Mundial.

I don't have the earlier Mundial, and I don't think there is alot of demand. Techniques keep changing, and alot of those techniques are well....old.

And, no I don't plan on re-issuing the DVD's. The shelf life of these DVD's are short.

Scotty has alot of good tournaments from the early years, and I suggest that you buy those.

bjjtapes,

I can't wait for new "Best of" DVD's in the future. I just recently bought he Best of 2003 mundials and love it!

I like that format and learn by watching the repetitive set up and situation where moves are pulled off in competition.
