A drunken thug causing trouble outside a club in Durham, England was given a rude awakening when a bouncer took matters into his own hands, literally. According to an eyewitness at the scene, the belligerent bully showed up at the ‘Studio’ club, and was refused entry as it was a ‘students only’ night.
Rather than going on his way, the troublemaker, who is reportedly a member of the English Defence League (EDL), a far-right, Islamophobic organization, started harassing other people outside the club. He even threatened the doormen and a woman taking the entry fees at the door, and was also alleged to have attempted to head-butt an unidentified individual. He was asked to move on several times by the bouncers, but wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and kept coming back.
Even the bully’s own friend was unable to convince him to leave, and that’s where the video footage begins, as the thug starts to become aggressive towards his companion. At the point, the doorman reacted in keeping with the famous maxim from the award-winning documentary Road House: “Be nice until it’s time to not be nice.”
It was high time to not be nice. One of the doormen, a legendary figure in the area named John, moves in to decisively defuse this ticking time bomb. He wraps his arm under the thug’s chin from behind as if looking for a standing rear-naked choke and then throws him to the pavement like a sack of old onions.
The bouncer then leaves the bully in no doubt that his unruly behavior won’t be tolerated any longer.
”Are you going to f*** off?” the doorman asks, as the hoodlum flails his arms around helplessly. “Are you going to f*** off, or I’ll pull your f***ing head off?”
Despite clearly being furious, the bouncer actually shows considerable restraint by not hitting the man, and seconds later he allows him to get back to his feet, commanding him to, “Up and f*** off.”
There’s a brief moment when it looks like the troublemaker might kick off again, to which the bouncer asks, “Are you going down again?”
Despite the thug’s bravado, it appears he isn’t keen on a repeat performance of his impromptu trip to the concrete, and so his friend is then able to move him away from the scene and he staggers off into the night, with only his pride hurt.
Many observers, including licensed doormen from the UK, argue that John went too far, and could, or even should lose his license. However, the reality is that nobody was hurt, the threat posed by the bully was defused, and he left the scene without further incident, which is the ideal outcome.
