Buchecha vs. Rodolfo (Pro 2014)....Rules Question

Admittedly, I don't know the rules for the Pro 2014.  But I imagine that you must establish control of your opponent during a sweep to earn 2 points.  Establishing control may be for 2-3 seconds.

The clock hits 0 before Buchecha maintains control of the sweep.  At best, Buchecha should have received an advantage for the sweep attempt, but clearly the clock hits 0 before control.  What's the consensus on this?

I'm pretty sure you're correct.

Fast Forward to 8:55

So close! Either way the ref called it would be acceptable. At 0 he was on his feet in rodolfos guard it seems Phone Post 3.0

But I see what you mean. At 3 seconds left he was still fighting for balance Phone Post 3.0

I wouldn't argue with the call. It was close either way.

It's a shame b/c if, as a fan, just looking at the roll without points, you'd think Rodolfo got the better of that. He was threatening Buchecha with mount for a long time and nearly had it. Buchecha never had Rodolfo in such a precarious situation. I generally like the pts to correlate with that naked eye test and that didn't happen here.

Theres a great screen shot doing the rounds with 00.00 on the timer and buchecha trying to get control and the ref with his hands by his sides. Its pretty damning Phone Post 3.0

Who was the ref out of interest? Julio Cesar Pereira reffed the weight finals Phone Post 3.0

Hywel Teague - Talked to a black belt today who fought there and the general consensus is that the refs there are inexperienced and don't adhere to same standards as ibjjf etc. they give points out pretty quick, for sure Phone Post 3.0

To me, only Black Belts should ref matches.

I've seen the pic you are talking about and it isn't really damning at all. A ref could have his hands by his side but just have finished counting 3 seconds to score...

That said, I don't think it should have scored the points, only an advantage, so Rodolfo would have won 3-2 on advantages. However, Buchecha did end up on top with control so I don't think it's the worst call ever.

As someone said, a lot of the refs there were scoring points very quickly throughout the competition.

Rob i meant its damning in the context of having watched the match. As in the point at which you see the 00:00 with rodolfo looking at the clock was just after buchecha got control (when rodolfo basically stopped fighting the sweep because he saw the timer had run out).

Anyway you're the expert! Phone Post 3.0

Yeah, weird response dude... you're the expert, lol
