Incredible story, very interested in seeing the mini docu-series Butterbean has done with DDP.
This was a great podcast Don cracked some good jokes, a few at Severns expense lol.
Butterbean has been in bad shape in recent years. Bad hips had him electric wheelchair bound for 3 years sitting over 500 pounds and filled with pain/inflammation.
DDP reached out to him Butterbean was down there for 4-6 months I think he said.
He has two new hips, and has come down to the “lightest I’ve ever been” at 300 pounds.
Butterbean claimed even in his prime fighting years he said a good 90 percent of his fights were at 360 plus.
Here he is at 300. DDP works miracles what a guy.
And yes you better beleive it Butterbean feels like a new man. He wants one more!
He went in there to fight those 4 rounders, he made it work with the Stars and Bars.
Butterbean repped Murica like a G it was top rank entertainment.
He’s done it all WWF(E), K-1, Sumo, Toughman (18 time world champ they barred him from competing so he went to pro box lol) MMA and of course Boxing. Former IBA SuperHW champ!!
Boxed Larry Holmes also, though he may have been older that’s one of the best heavyweight boxers ever known to man in Holmes.
Bean is the man. He did alright in MMA and would’ve done much better if he gave at least one shit about fitness. I say it on every thread of his, I’m still pissed we almost saw him vs Hunt in Pride, but the gay ass NSAC blocked it.
Would have been fuckin insane!!!..maybe we’ll see it sooner than later?? Hunts been boxing a bit lately.
We also almost saw Ernesto Hoost - Bean in K1 but this fight didn’t happen due to Beans corner pulling him from the fight after learning of Ernesto skill…
Tank had a stroke. He won’t get cleared by anyone even Indians. Plus he is a lot smaller than he used to be.
Second- Larry Holmes came to my backyard and ate tri tip with us when I was younger. He is one of the reasons I wanted to fight. He had the biggest hands I have ever seen. My dad hired his trainer Keith Klevin for a corporate safety speech gig and he brought Larry with him for the trip to Ca. He was a very nice man.
So Butterbean has claimed BKFC has reached out to him.
He has contemplated Bare knuckle for his return fight prior to them reaching out but said the money / fit was not there.
He also claims he was offered to fight John Fury on an undercard bout…presumably on a Paul show? Or a Fury card fighting alongside his son?
Butterbean claimed the fit / money was not there aswell.
“2-3 months it will happen” he said. “We’re talking to the right people now to get my story right and promote me coming back from a wheelchair and losing weight” etc.
Butterbean also claimed the Paul Brothers could fight him one brother each round back and forth that’s how good and confident he feels getting all fixed up with DDP
When Butterbean was asked of toughest fights he mentioned his K-1 bout with Mike Bernardo.
Mike lit up Butterbean with leg kicks. No check was there and Mike just kept going and going till WHAP switched it up and landed a head kick sitting Bean down having the ref step in.
Butterbean told Bernardo “Thank you” after receiving the head kick lol claiming “those leg kicks hurrrrt” he claimed Bernardo couldn’t beleive he had thanked him for going for the head instead of the leg! He had a sense if humor about it lolll
Backstage Mike told Bean simply I knew you wouldn’t check those kicks Bean. He told Bean because of this he never commited to low kicks that hard before and was shocked at how many he had taken.
Butterbean for his efforts despite the loss was given 30 thousand dollar bonus from K1.
Butterbean said the heart he showed taking those leg kicks and getting back up earned him that bonus. K1 brass told him this upon gifting him the bonus.
He also got taken care of for an extra week in Japan because the swelling in his leg was do bad they didn’t want to have him fly.
Butterbean gave the world so many fun fights…90+ in boxing, 7 kickboxing, 27 in MMA.
Its easy to forget (well I never knew until now) that Butterbean won nine MMA fights by sub.
I’ll never forget though when he beat Zuluzinho via americana at the last PRIDE show. At the time it felt like watching Royce Gracie KO someone with a left hook or a wheel kick.
