Can someone explain Romero potential" violation

Why is it a "potential" violation and not an actual violation?

My guess is they are holding out for second test to avoid Cung Lee type situations Phone Post 3.0

I assumed he failed and they are waiting b-sample confirmation.

UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero faces a potential anti-doping violation for a failed out-of-competition drug test.

Romero was notified of the violation by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which handles all drug testing for the Las Vegas-based promotion. The UFC released a statement on the matter Tuesday evening. It is currently unclear the substance for which Romero tested positive or the date of the test.

“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Romero,” the statement read. “Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

Romero is the third fighter to be caught by USADA, as both Mirko Filipovic and Gleison Tibau were flagged for violations last year. The recently-retired Filipovic was suspended for two years prior to a scheduled bout against Anthony Hamilton at UFC Fight Night in South Korea; Tibau, who potentially failed both an in-competition and an out-of-competition drug test, has yet to receive his punishment.

The 38-year-old Romero has won seven straight fights in the Octagon. Most recently, he garnered a split-verdict over Ronaldo Souza at UFC 194 on Dec. 12 in a pivotal middleweight clash

There was high levels of Badgers Milk and Holy water in his urine sample. Investigation continues...

So he did fail a test but its still a potential violation until a follow up test followed by an appeal?

StrikingMMA - I assumed he failed and they are waiting b-sample confirmation.

So its not official until the follow up test? But USADA protocol states that a first test failure must be publicized?

yes it is, Romero has the right to ask for b-sample testing if he passes that right its a actual violation, so its not mandatory to test the b-sample. the A-sample results are the final results.

Does seem a little odd to report just the smoke. They should wait until they've identified the fire before sounding the alarm. Phone Post 3.0

yes, it is official already? Or they don't make it official until Yoel makes a decision with the B sample?

All busts so far by USADA have been announced as "potential violations" with "provisional suspensions".

He was busted -- his sample tested positive -- but he can challenge on various grounds. If he waives that right, or if the challenge fails, then it becomes final.

That's weird how they then say "potential violation" when it's more a potential suspension based on final status no?

Have to take it up with cheesus first Phone Post 3.0
