Some of the reasons I had argued about before are mentioned, notably: having a doctor or EMT present and proceeds not being used for profit.

THOMAS’ CHARGES DROPPED
UFC Lightweight Cleared of Third-Degree Felony in Wake of Oct. 30 Arrest
By Brian Knapp (bknapp@thefightnetwork.com)
Prosecutors in Fort Pierce, Fla., today decided to drop felony charges against UFC lightweight contender Din Thomas, according to a REPORT in the Palm Beach Post. The 31-year-old had been accused of violating a Florida statute that governs “prohibited competitions,” a third-degree felony.
Based out of the America Top Team, Thomas was arrested on Oct. 30 for allegedly running illegal mixed martial arts matches at a warehouse in Port St. Lucie, Fla. An arrest warrant filed by Officer Brian Kenny stated that the event in question had taken place on Oct. 19. Kenny, along with another officer, observed the bouts in an “octagonal” ring. Thomas told the officers no medical staff was present, according to the warrant application.
Thomas (20-7) last competed at UFC Fight Night 11 in September, as he submitted to a rear-naked choke from Kenny Florian. The Floridian suffered a career-threatening knee injury in the bout, just before Florian cinched in the fight-ending choke. Thomas had won three consecutive fights previously, a stretch that included an impressive unanimous decision victory over Clay Guida.
A nine-year veteran of the MMA circuit, Thomas owns victories over former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver and current UFC welterweight title holder Matt Serra. After a nearly four-year-long hiatus from the UFC, Thomas appeared on season four of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series and re-established himself inside the Las Vegas-based promotion.

congrats to Din for getting justice
Good for Din.
Too bad he had to go through all that shit and bad press and have his name associated with criminal activity just to have them drop the charges.
Never should have happened.
"Prosecutors in Fort Pierce, Fla., today decided to drop felony charges..."
I hope they don't make up some lesser misdemeanor charge to save face.
ttt
Din is free!
That's good for him, because his career could've been over.
"It would be nice if police would spend more time fighting real crime."
No shit, like maybe drugs or something of worth.
Oh hell no, lets bust a fucking martial arts non profit smoker!
Great news!
The good guys win one for once!
sweet
Cool Din !
Did anyone ever think he was arrested because it was potentially a crime, but they ultimately decided not to prosecute because they're not monsters? I know it doesn't fit the more emotionally satisfying victim scenario.
congrats to Din
Good. Law finally got one right
LittleMick has jumped bail to the correct. It's about time they dropped the trumped up charges. This was total B.S. from the start. Congrats 095993, er, I mean Din :)
There are no rules so it's not illegal I would guess.
As long as everyone is a student, it's a sparring class with a crowd and a raffle at the end. No profit made, no fighters paid, proper protection issued, safe for everyone.
I thought this whole thing was brought about by the Flordia Department of Business regulation or something.
Otherwise the police wouldn't give a shit what Din was doing in his school.
