I remember how much fun it was to be a BJJ fanboy back in the day when internet was its nascent stages. Before mma.tv I used to frequent the In The Guard forum and I’d go to bjj,org but I think Mike Dorio’s was my fave early hangaround. I just found Dorio’s from Web archive and it brings back a lot of memories.
Did Michael Jen have a site with techniques or is my memory totally off? That was the era of learning from magazines and books.
I spent many an hour at the old Planet NHB site
Yeah, in tube socks and sweatpants
Im totally blanking on the site and the guys name, but he trained at Ralph’s and was the first to pull the whole Gracie tree together. He had a site in the infancy of the internet.
I also remember going to Kinkos to watch Oscar de Jiu-Jitsu because I didn’t have internet at home or work. I paid by the minute. It was like $50
Do you remember the link to Planet NHB?
Yes!
Well, I’ll be darned… I just learned how to do the Gracie’s Oompa move from the world wide web!
This is classic only in the sense that it looks like it’s from 2003 and is filled with bullshit marketing.
CRAAAAAAAACK!
It’s on the way back machine
How about before that when it was just the rec.martial-arts newsgroup?
